orienteering race 50:08 [4] *** 5.1 km (9:50 / km)
shoes: Jalas hi-top O' shoes

OCIN "Freezer O'" meet at Miami Univ Natural Areas, course set by Bill Swift. I felt like I was able to run hard the whole way, other than fighting thru the thick stuff.

walking 3:00:00 [1] * 4.0 mi (45:00 / mi)
shoes: Icebugs

setting controls for sprints & midnight orienteering event. This was mostly in the dark, but it was a beautiful night... temp was in the fifties and pleasant, there was moonlight & skyglow & I hardly bothered with using my headlight. Actually spent closer to 4 hours in the woods... distance is a very rough & very conservative guess.

trail running 3:57 [2] 0.35 mi (11:17 / mi)
shoes: O T Blaze III

easy jog with light backpack to Miami Univ. migratory bird study area.

walking 30:00 [1] 1.5 mi (20:00 / mi)
shoes: O T Blaze III

put temporary safety caps on the metal stakes used to support mist nets, in preparation for OCIN New Year's O' Festival Sprints. actually spent about 50+ minutes in the woods, removed a couple problem honeysuckle branches & checked over a few other event/course related issues.

Wednesday Dec 27, 2006 #

walking 1:30:00 [1] * 4.5 km (20:00 / km)
weight:162lbs shoes: O T Blaze III

Setting "woods" controls for "MIdnight Orienteering" for OCIN's New Year's Orienteering Festival.

trail building / maintenance 15:00 [2]

chainsaw - cleared 3 fallen trees off American Discovery Trail segment at Governor Bebb. If you do the Midnight orienteering, you won't have to worry about them!

road running 32:26 [3] 6.0 km (5:24 / km)

late night road run.

Monday Dec 25, 2006 #

road running 14:33 [4] 2.7 km (5:23 / km)
shoes: O T Blaze III

dark, light drizzle & too many cars on the road, so I kept it real short. But, it felt good to get out a little bit.

Sunday Dec 24, 2006 #

trail running warm up/down 5:43 [2] 0.57 mi (10:02 / mi)
weight:162lbs shoes: Icebugs

warm-up trail run, Miami Univ Western Campus.

orienteering 18:52 [5] ** 2.75 km (6:52 / km)
shoes: Icebugs

Test run of Sprint #1 for New Year's O' festival. ground wet in a few places, but generally no big slipping problems.

walking warm up/down 8:39 [1] 0.6 mi (14:25 / mi)
shoes: Icebugs

cool-down walk after test run. Included re-running one short leg by a different route for comparison. And, as I got in my van and left the parking lot, WOW did I feel AOWN! I stopped to watch a rough legged hawk on the grass, just off the road. He seemed pretty unphased that I stopped the van just 5 meters or so from him & watched him for a couple minutes. He kept hopping/scratching in the grass on what looked like a mole tunnel. Finally flew off when another car pulled up & tried to go around. Wish I'd had a camera with me... would have made a fantastic shot.
