long course set by Orunner at Pyramid Hill. Pretty clean run, slow on the big uphills.

road running 23:38 [3] 2.4 mi (9:51 / mi)
weight:162lbs shoes: AW white

Miles 9:55, 9:56.

As I came in toward the finish, I noticed a small critter run out of the bushes, running away ahead of me. This was sometime between civil and astronomical twilight, so it was getting pretty dark and my first thought was "rabbit". But as I got closer, it began to dawn on me that "It's not running like a rabbit"... and "it's black"... and "its got a white stripe" and "uh oh., its raising its tail".

At that point, I slammed on the brakes, and Mr. Skunk kept on running away, so all's well that ended well, but it was probably at least a couple seconds before I had the presence of mind to hit "stop" on my watch...

orienteering race 1:17:03 [3] *** 6.5 km (11:51 / km)
18c shoes: Icebug 2020

"Long" course at OxBow County Park. Made the big mistake of trying to go through the "seasonal marsh" on the way to control 1; probably got more than halfway distance-wise, but it was getting deeper and deeper; turned back and took the trail around. That mistake cost me a chance to beat Mintore, who ended up edging me out by a minute and change. Mostly pretty clean after that, except for getting confused going into and out of the last control - might have lost another minute there. The disc golf area was a bit trickier than it looked on the map-it definitely paid off to be a little slower and more careful navigating thru that area!

yard and garden: chainsaw, loppers, raking, wheelbarrow.

road running 51:00 [3] 5.0 mi (10:12 / mi)

Scenic "Trail".
When I pulled into the parking lot, the Franklin County HS Cross Country team was there and I didn't want to run with so many people, so I drove around to the Garr Hill end and ran from there. A couple hundred yards from the gate, I realized that I hadn't started my watch, so I didn't get a time for the first half mile up the BIG hill. So total time is estimated. 44:46 for 4.5, but I'd guess that first half mile was over 6... uphill and slow.

Miles, starting 0.5 from the north end: 10:36,10:15, 10:10, 9:35.
4:10 for the downhill half-mile at the end.
