Orienteering race 15:16 [4] 2.1 km (7:16 / km)
shoes: X-Talon 190

State Sprint Champs at ECU Joondalup. Rather than run on the edge as usual, I decided to take the time walking out of each control to make absolutely sure of the route to the next, then run hard. Most of the routes and controls were so easy though, that I should have used my usual method.

Even though I got the recommended winning time (just) I still think anything over 2km is long for M70. Was totally cooked by the second last and could only walk to the last control and finish which were both uphill with stairs.

Well done to mickymaynard - fabulous run. And what were all the guys doing, thrashed by a 15 yo girl and a 70 yo has-been.

Orienteering race 45:56 [4] 2.1 km (21:52 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280

SOL Middle Distance at Malmalling, 1-3 ok, 4 was only 200m, and came quickly to a clearing with bare rock only 50m from the control, but managed somehow to spend 4 mins on that 50m. A little distracted I exited too hastily and then spent 16 mins on the next 200m leg to 5. Saw several others scratching heads in the general area, but we were all 100m too low. Lost a further 3 mins hunting a 1m boulder in thick sheoaks at 8, and then 2 mins more at the last which should have been a doddle.

Orienteering race 46:13 [3] 2.5 km (18:29 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 Oroc 280

Signed up for H3 immediately after the OY debacle and ran the first 5 well to be sitting just behind Noel, and 5 mins (??) ahead of Anthea who made a total meal of no. 2, then did a Henry, going too far along a track to 6 and losing nearly 3 mins. Over the next 5 controls I caught one of those minutes back to Noel, but Anthea was closing fast and I was only 20 secs ahead of her at 11. On the way to 12 I passed a flag on a boulder in a clearing that I'd had on H4 and convinced myself it was the boulder in the next clearing over, so started hunting for 12 150m too early. Hung around the area for 10 minutes before realising what I'd done. Ended up 12 mins behind Noel and 8 behind Anthea and Rob W.
