Orienteering race 52:07 [3] 5.2 km (10:01 / km)
shoes: Inov-8 X-Talon 2nd pair

Day 2 at Dryandra, calf ok again, but felt that it was always likely to go.

Ok until 5, a termite mound. Got to the right area (low spur) and just couldn't see it, although I could see several root mounds which at times have been mapped in WA as TMs. Eventually spotted a hint of orange after wasting the best part of a minute. Bad route to 7 going right around a breakaway adding at least 200m and 3+ minutes (it was slow country, green and rocky) when I should have braved the green in the direct route up a broad gully. Anthea got me by 9 minutes for the second time, but somehow I managed to be best male on H3 over the two days and won another glass.

Orienteering race 46:47 [3] 4.7 km (9:57 / km)
shoes: X-Talon 190

Day 1 of WA Day Classic at Dryandra. Straight the only way to go here, so ignored the road option on the long leg to 1. It turns out H1 had the same first 3 controls, and the majority of H1 guns took the road. Splits will be interesting. Was going well to 3 which looked like it would be a shallow gully on a breakaway typical of the area, but came to what everywhere else on this map is mapped as a watercourse. Naturally assumed it was the w/c 150m further North when I couldn't see a flag, so headed off South. After 200m I hit a track and realised the control must have been in the earlier w/c, and found it behind a bush. 6 minutes and not happy with the mapper. Otherwise ok, except for Anthea blasting past me just before 5. Managed to hang on until 6 and kept her in sight until the big breakaway at 7, where she went over the top so I decided to go around below. My choice was bad as the conglomerate belwo the breakaway was particularly slow going. Saw A belting out of the control and down the hill while i was still 40m away, and never saw her after that.

Calf was good, never felt it, but was still wary about going hard.
