Note

Coaching the CSU team at Jukola. Stayed up all night through the whole race - only a short 5-10 minute nap in the morning sun that made me miss the last change-over. A very good result by the team due to some solid orienteering without major mistakes. Never more than 4 minutes off my original 9 min/km-schedule!

Event: Jukola

Orienteering 34:00 [3] *** 3.2 km (10:37 / km)
ahr:131 max:148 spiked:6/9c shoes: OLWAY 2004 (orange)

Easy orienteering with the CSU team on the Jukola Relay training map. Orienteering went well, only a few minor (~30 sec) mistakes. Hot and sunny - temperatures in the 30´s.

OCAD/Sportident/MeOS (1:15:00) 1:00 [0]

Programming and changing some batteries on SI units for tonight´s Club Championships. Mats W and Lars S picked up their respective kits before lunch.

OCAD/Sportident/MeOS (1:00:00) 1:00 [0]

Peo had some serious trouble getting the competition running - no contact with the SI Master - so I had to stay and help him and we tried everything possible to get things going before runners started to come back. We finally got things going again (to start with using my portable computer that I luckily had in the car) and only the first 4-5 runners were affected and had to punch in twice.
When I came back after my delayed run I heard that my computer had 'crashed' - probably due to a bad battery - but Peo got his own up and running finally and saved the show. We used the results printer as a backup just in case.

Road running warm up/down 13:00 [2] 1.8 km (7:13 / km)
shoes: OLWAY 2004 (orange)

To the start to get there in time before they closed. I had problems finding the streamers so I missed one of the turns adding some extra distance before I turned back.

Orienteering race (2nd place/2) 58:04 [4] *** 5.0 km (11:37 / km)
ahr:134 max:148 spiked:11/14c shoes: OLWAY 2004 (orange)

Club Championships in Falun on the Gruvriset map. My concentration going into the race maybe wasn´t the best after the computer problems at the finish. I was the last starter and completely alone in the forest for the first half of my course until I saw a few other runners on other courses.
I still tried to concentrate on orienteering as cleanly as possible (which should always be the case really) and succeeded quite well. Lots of 'green stuff' and lots of stony ground made the running very slow to begin with, but I still managed to navigate well to the first six controls. After that I lost some of my concentration since I had been given the wrong control descriptions. This threw me off for a while and I started some sloppy orienteering - not staying on my bearings and executing my route choices poorly.
My first missed control (~1½ min) was #9, but some small detours en-route to #7 and #8 probably cost me some time as well.
The real disaster came on the last two easy controls (path-bend and road junction!) that I blew completely! Having turned off my brain I missed maybe 2-3 min's less than 200 m from the finish!
Over all not really a bad race - except for the last two controls - but not really a good one either. My running speed was definitely affected a lot by the poor footing and this also affects the over all performance since I can´t concentrate enough on my map-reading.
