At the Bresemans House 35:00 [4] ** 2.8 km (12:30 / km)
16c
A Yellow-level course set up by Rick to simulate what could be expected at an A meet for the younger Orienteers. Had starting lines just like those found at A meets except these came equipped with small blurbs on tips and things to do before starting the race. The race itself was 16 controls spread over 2.8 km and the navigation was pretty easy. I focused on flow and reading ahead on my map. Everything went smoothly beyond the one moment where I got a little cocky and wound up in a blackberry bush because I figured cutting through the green would surely go faster than taking a few precious moments to go around on the trail.
Breseman Training: Physical warm up/down 10:00 [1]
Breseman Training: Navigation 25:00 [3] ***
Was given a copy of a Kansas map with course, jogged around talking aloud about what I was "seeing" as I went control to control. Worked hard at visulizing on what the terrain would look like and what features would be readily reconizable in person.
Note
I got a brand new Compass. I gave it a bit of a test-run today but I can't wait to see how it performs at Kansas.
