Trail Running warm up/down 6:19 intensity: (1:37 @1) + (3:19 @2) + (1:03 @3) + (20 @4) 0.33 mi (19:09 / mi) +46m 13:22 / mi

This was mostly an uphill walk. Pretty lame warm up, I got distracted chatting with folks before my race and didn't leave enough time for this :)

Orienteering 1:41:52 intensity: (48 @1) + (16:59 @2) + (35:45 @3) + (44:12 @4) + (4:08 @5) 6.55 mi (15:33 / mi) +200m 14:12 / mi

Livelox

Ooof I rolled my bad ankle just before control 7. Couldn't put weight on it for ~30 seconds, then I was able to start walking on it. Totally lost track of where I was in the process and blew past the control, only realizing when I noticed the downhill slope. Mostly walked to 8 and then took the rest of the course at a very conservative pace to avoid doing further damage. I'm glad to be starting physical therapy soon... maybe I should avoid the woods for a bit.

Other than that I had fun today! Definitely not as clean as yesterday but I enjoyed the more technical challenge. I was also happy that the flags were "hidden" better today. For some reason on the way to 3 I started navigating to 4 but I don't think I lost too much time there.

General notes after watching the Livelox routes from both days: I think I can save some time by being more intentional with my compass on legs where I simplify and am just booking it to a trail or other linear feature. I see a few legs where other runners chose better angles (sticking closer to the line) and gained some time on me. The beginning of 8 --> 9 on Day 1, and 7 --> 8 on Day 2 are examples. There were also a few routes where I chose to go straight rather than on trails and that was apparently the wrong decision. But trails are so boring!

Overall I had a great time this weekend and it was nice to see some folks who I haven't seen in years! Thank you to everyone who made this event happen, including the wonderful 50th anniversary dinner! I'm still chuckling at the "Orienteering is for Women Too" pamphlet that was among the other memorabilia :)

Livelox
This is my first time using Livelox and I'm in love!!

Ooh la la a fresh new map, thank you Carl! What a joy to be able to rely on vegetation for once. This course was fun. It did feel a bit like a "runners" course which is not my fav. The flags were fairly easy to spot once you were in the circle and there were plenty of legs with obvious trail route choices.

On the way to 3 I mistakenly read "8" as "3" and started navigating to the wrong control. I didn't realize it until leaving the trail south of 8. Oopsies! Probably lost a few mins there but I think it could've been worse and I'm proud of myself for being able to refocus quickly. Looking at splits I guess I should've taken the trail route choices to 5 and 8 instead of sticking closer to the line. I was clearly enjoying the runnable woods too much!

Orienteering 44:25 intensity: (37:04 @1) + (2:28 @2) + (4:13 @3) + (40 @4) 3.61 km (12:19 / km)

Note

Went to see an orthopedist today about my ankle since it’s given me issues for 5+ years at this point. Turns out I had a tiny fracture from a while ago that has since healed on its own, my theory is it happened in Dec 2015 when I had a really bad sprain.
Going to start PT to strengthen the ankle and surrounding muscles hopefully soon!

There were soooo many people along the river today, like too many. Hard to get into the flow when you have to dodge people every few minutes. This felt difficult.
