Trail Run 11:11 [3] 0.9 mi (12:26 / mi) +240m 6:48 / mi

Woke up with legs aching, cramp (or something) in my foot. But when my 3:00 was canceled, I texted Alex: you going to Prospect?

Yeah. She was biking out. That made my decision easy: want a ride?

Legs definitely felt yesterday. Ankles a little wobbly, feet a little hurty, legs tired. Almost like two hours of blueberry bashing does that. Went decently hard on the first four bounds, went for a fifth and lost a pole tip coming up, so that became a cool down.

Bounding is almost sort of fun. Really too bad the hill is so eroded; a grassy hill there would be amazing.

44s still wet from yesterday despite being on the heater (which means the heater might be broken in the hall; this happened before). Wore 44.5s. They worked fine.

Trail Run 55:39 [1] 4.6 mi (12:06 / mi) +265m 10:16 / mi

The rest of the running, not bounding.

Note

Plan for the week: white! In the training log and on the ground.

Tomorrow: probably not going to hit Tripoli, conditions are probably fine, but lots of driving. Windblown sounds iffy. Tuesday it may snow in the morning north of town, but won't kill myself, since I have to be back. So running? Bounding? Stuff like that.

Then, Wednesday. I think I am decided to go to Maine for Thanksgiving with my aunt/uncle/cousins. That puts me in striking distance of Jackson/Pinkham/Tux or if Five Fields Farm is open, 10 minutes from there. (i.e. Turkey Trot up to HoJos). Then Friday the damn-near-three-hour trek over to Cbury, for camp, and all the skiing.

This should be good.

Run 3:12 [1] 0.4 mi (8:00 / mi) +8m 7:32 / mi

At the Traverse start, nice weather, quick run around the school fields to the men's room.

Orienteering 1:52:32 [3] 10.2 mi (11:02 / mi) +452m 9:42 / mi

Traverse! Starting down in Ponkapoag, which is a little less hilly, and less mapped, and a little thicker, but fun to go somewhere new. The Blue Hills are not small, and it's pretty amazing they've been running this for nearly half a century.

Started in a group to 1, then to 2 on a trail, somewhat behind Keegan, and right in front of guy/Brit Alex, to 2, trail to 3 with a not-great attack, ran with him and Keegan through 5, buggered up 6 a bit but refound them to 7 and then 8.

Last week at Wawa my new shoes were fine with the laces in the "garage." Not so much with constant blueberries; so I had to re-put them in, and next time have to do an Alex magic knot. Salomons they are not, those never came undone. We were looking for 8, I stopped to tie my shoes, but lost ground on Alex and Keegan there and didn't make it back on the way to 9, where I dealt more with my shoe and misread the boulder and dot hill and lost time as Wyatt caught up (with someone else, I think). We had some trouble with 10 in the boudler field, then across 128 to find Keegan et al a control ahead of us on the competitor spectator control.

I got ahead on 15 which I went left on and navigated pretty well, but then Wyatt caught up on 16 when I misread control descriptions and was looking for a boulder instead of a reentrant and ran right by the control it seems, then we both lost some time on 17, Wyatt winding up too far down, and the control being mapped in white and actually in green. That allowed Ernst to catch up to us somewhat, and Jimmy was with him. Left to 18 but right may have been better, and to 19 I went high to attack off a trail but overran a trail junction and lost time. Then 20 was struggly to find that depression which should probably be mapped as >5m deep since I skied down in to it. I saw the field option and ran down that trail, lots of contours but not a terrible route choice. I caught Wyatt and Ernst and we ran together to 21 nicely, then to 22. Almost done! I went right to 23, right down a trail/stream, feet wet, went to attack 23 off a junction but did so poorly, and lost time to both Wyatt and Ernst before finally finding it … somewhere. So definitely some nav bobbles, but lots of fun!

Ski 58:20 [1] 5.3 mi (11:00 / mi) +110m 10:20 / mi

Skiing! Sort of. No drive way north today, but we found some slushy fast grass out at Weston to play around on. Pictures from Jackson and Craftsbury look amazing, making plans.

Run 46:00 [1] 5.2 mi (8:51 / mi) +82m 8:26 / mi

Good decision this morning not to run hills in slush. So I didn't get sick. Had errands in the afternoon.

Added in some vert for running back up Prospect Hill a couple of times that the Garmin did not detect. Counting contours! Silly garmin.

Note

6900m of climb so far in November. That's more than the entirety of January, March, April, May or June. (FWIW, highest month, working at Lakes September of 2013, was 17367m.)

On pace for just shy of 15k. And it's not completely far-fetched! If there's enough snow for some skin mornings at Wawa or triple Tripolis, that could add up! And I'm down to needing just 390m/day for the rest of the year to hit 100.

The other thing is that I am probably on pace to hit 400 hours this year. That's nice, too. #noinjuries

Run 1:33:52 [1] 4.0 mi (23:28 / mi) +1616m 10:24 / mi

Vertical mile again. Cold—30—and breezy so a good day for it. Ran pretty even splits, including the fastest on the last leg (15:00 even), for my fastest time (1:34:03, 1:35:08, 1:33:52), but pretty even since this is less a race and more a long workout. Felt good before, during, after, but we'll see how tomorrow shapes up. Nice to knock out four days of vert in an hour and a half.

It turns out other people were doing 100, and heard that 114 was a VM, so they did 114. I'm a good influence!
