"Ryhope". Hard Medium: 5.1km, 16c. 14th/28 (34:19 behind Malcolm Roberts). 14°C. TE 3.5.
Much more difficult than last week. Only had trouble when I changed strategies mid-leg. #1 - Up track then contour across to 2nd gully. #2 - Ran too far down minor track and had to follow WC back up (lost 3'). #3 - Parallel to WC. #4 - Planned to follow track and then edge of green to WC but drifted into earlier gully (-7:20). #5 - Track to bend then compass. #6 - Straight. #7 - Tracks below powerlines then contour from pylon. #8 - N to pick up minor track then straight from track bend. #9 - Ran a bit past white area but turned back after finding mapped indistinct track (-2:10). #10 - Picked up N-S track to gully on other side of WC. Long #11 - Tracks. #12 - Tracks. #13 - Follow gully down. #14 - Misread next control and went to #15 first (-10'). #15 - Backtrack. #16 - Straight. #F - Followed white area to track. Best legs: #6,11 (6th/28). Best pos: 12th/28 (#12).
