Whitewater Kayak (Capilano) 45:00 [3]

at 3'

Grabbing a paddle on my way back home.

Hooked up (in the wanna go paddlin' sense) with a weird guy...anyway, river was kinda boring otherwise.

AR 5:04:14 [4]

Results are up. Good work MOMAR gang. Anyway, I don't feel too bad now. Our friends came 2nd in the 2M category and we were ahead of them after the first trek and up until the hike-a-bike. In the end they were 30+minutes ahead of us, but I'll count some 15minutes trekking up the wrong "marked" trail with a few others, and a few miss turns on the bikes, plus just feeling bagged as "we didn't fall too far off the pace in the end". Of course, Gary and Todd set a huge pace and blew us all away (and overall first folks to cross) in 3:52. Gary did have homecourt advantage and nailed everything including the mystery nav stuff through town at the end. They're very fast too.

In summary, a very good AR put on by Bryan with course design by Jen Segger-Grigg (sp?). No paddling (boo!). So it was all running and quite technical Squamish-style mountain biking. I was solid for about the first 1/2 and then just dropped right off as I couldn't get my biking legs together. arg had to watch me suffer. My only defense may be that I had H's (heavier) bike again as they couldn't find a pivot bearing for mine in time. Good thing my gf is 5'9" and her bike fits me well enough.

And yes, there was one misplaced CP and some others that were slightly off - enough that stupidity gets rewarded and deligence gets punished. Not as bad as I make it sound, but, well, yeah I won't go that way right now as it was a fun race. Tough, but fun.

Whitewater Kayak (Mamquam) 45:00 [2]

The beginning of a series of misadventures. I had my whitewater boat down with me at MOMAR (Squamish) and at about 9:00 pm decided to see if there was any playspots on the Mamquam. arg came with and by the time I figured out the right road it was getting dark. I figured I would just quickly paddle the river and meet arg at the intersection of Hwy 99 and the Mamquam River. Problem became that I exited on the north end of town and arg was waiting for me at the bridge over a slough at the south end of town. No phones. No money. And it was now full night. I waited for awhile (15min.) and then realized where arg may be as I had orginally thought that was the bridge as well. So I walked Hwy 99. I'm sure I looked pretty weird fully decked out in paddling gear walking Hwy 99 in the night. Anyway, when I got there (3.5km later) arg wasn't to be seen. I phoned 911 from a payphone just to let them know if a freaked out guy phones looking for a dead paddler that I actually was alright and hanging at the Shell Station not having a clue what I should do next. Eventually I thought I saw a figure on the bridge in the dark down the road and by yelling we figured out that each other was truly a dimwit...

Bed time by about 12:30pm.

Highway Walking 45:00 [2]

A new discipline I invented and is only valid if you're carrying a boat, car wheel, or bent bike on your shoulder while wearing inappropriate footwear (in my case booties).

Note

Today is the first day my "bits and pieces" feel normal. Bike is in the shop hoping to get repaired by tomorrow, cuz of MOMAR this weekend.

Basically, I've felt a little lazy (yet guilty) the last few days and I've lined up some excuses.

Whitewater Kayak 2:00:00 [3]

Clearwater at 3'

Brilliant time! Heartrate always gets going pretty good at the beginning of the year when you put in right below a 5+/6 rapid and jump in to the meat of the river with no warmup. Booyah! Pink Mountain was prime.

Running (Recovery) 1:06:42 [2] 10.4 km (6:25 / km)

Absolutely no worry about keeping the pace down today. None.
