Snowboarding (Backcountry) 4:00:00 [3]

M. and I went solo from the group to avoid "traversing" and
grabbed a line on the shoulder of Mt. Grizzly.

Snowboarding (Backcountry) 6:40:00 [3]

A brilliant two runs at Bostock. Nice glades and stellar snow. Includes time for tracking back and forth to Wheeler Hut.

Went with a group of 6 - including Alan from Calgary who was an excellent guide and resource for the area.

Snowboarding (Backcountry) 20:00 [2]

Blah...our day went to $%$# when we got stuck behind an avalanche for 5 hours in Three Valley Gap. Worked on puzzles and cards.

The 20 min. is the time to skin in to the Wheeler Hut when we finally rolled in to Roger's Pass.

Arriving to the hut at night:

Note

Just saw Dave Howells and Andreas Hestler on the morning Global News promoting snowshoeing and the Yeti race series.

Note

Snow, snow everywhere but I have to pack for this weekend's trip and finish caulking the basement door. Still I have hockey tonight which is always fun.

Hock-ay (1hr45min ice time) 1:15:00 [4]

Olympic ice. Frustrating game with nothing going right. Big hit on their goalie as we both charged a loose puck.

Spinning 50:00 [2]

Did alternating standing sprints during commercials while feeling brain cells implode during "Beauty and the Geek". I feel dirty now.

Just found out that the boat of choice for the World's is the Necky Amaruk. I have a personal "disappointment" in this boat - finding it being sold as "robust and popular" to really mean fat, heavy, and slow. But it is safe and affordable which is why I think the race directors' default to this plug. Any team not capable of handling open seas might benefit from the safety focus of this boat, but if you have the skills, this is a serious anchor - and the safest thing to do is to get through the open water sections as fast as possible. Basically we got our asses handed to us during a start of Southern Traverse while in these boats and I vowed (as a paddler) to never get stuck in one again if I had a choice.

Note

This is just a test to see if I can figure out how to embed graphics... a photo from Roger's Pass the other weekend.

Yeah! It worked. I'll be going back "there" this weekend.

Note

If you don't go when you want to go, you'll find when you do go to go you're gone.

Running 47:00 [2] 8.0 km (5:53 / km)

Jacket and gloves were still needing to dry so put on the shoes and decided to go for a run instead of skate skiing. Wintery, slippery day so kept a nice relaxed pace. Felt good. Other than stiff quads, I felt really good.

Had my moment of zen when I stopped at the river confluence to watch the trumpeter swans and snow geese move around in a small patch of open water in the snowfall. A flock of mallards took flight and landed around me; indicating that someone had been feeding them. Very peaceful.

Strength 35:00 [2]

B. phoned and asked it I wanted to go the gym. It wasn't on the radar (last attendance was early November) as I find the gabby resolution crowd too distracting, but I figured I'd go. I always end up the "trainer" in these situations, which motivates me to make it harder. Anyway, just as I was thinking that my legs felt pretty good after "6 hours of stairmaster" yesterday, both quads left the building during a 4th set of squats. Nothing drastic, just a weird feeling as both just quit at the same time. Now I have that horrible stiff sore feeling and when I got home the dogs attacked me like mosquitoes - so a stiff-legged walk it is...

Note

Things just got super busy and financially stressful with the addition of an event below. Feel free to guess which one I just found out about.
