Orienteering race 34:51 [4]

Barebones and WCOC Middle @ Brandywine.
2nd overall and 2nd Western Canadian.
Love this terrain! I haven't been here for several years and I didn't really trust the map/terrain since I remember it as being sketchy in places. The first control was quite easy and in nice terrain but then I slowed down for the next three since they were the first ones in complex terrain. I lost the race here - Thomas was 1:50 faster on these three controls alone. In the end, I didn't have anything to fear since the map was good throughout. Good illustration that you need to push start to finish.

Trail running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Warm-up before the race and cool down jog to the car, racing back to watch the FIFA World Cup final!

Trail running 1:24:00 [3]

Nice jog with Brent and Patrick on Lost Lake map again. Lots of folks at the beach including the Vancouver orienteering crowd. Nice day again.

Orienteering race 17:36 [5]

Barebones sprint.
5th overall and 3rd Western Canadian (representing a NB club - hey, I pay taxes in the west...)
Pretty intricate map with lots of micro-route choice. You always had to be on top of where you were and read ahead but I didn't manage to do this very well. Legs tired from the last couple of days and the warm-up was only so-so but that said, felt okay once I got going.
Great arena location and had a nice espresso while watching the end of the Tour.

Orienteering race 1:32:33 [4]

Barebones long @ Lost Lake.
3rd overall and 2nd Western Canadian.
Tough terrain and tough race. Difficult to read the map, even at 1:7500 on top of the hill. Pretty darn hot as well so it was tough in the last couple of km to keep moving.
I'm pretty satisfied with the result, even though I arrived late to the start and had spent the whole day to that point driving from PG...

Trail running 1:15:00 [2]

Easy run around FFTW with Phil, Cheryl and Pat. Pretty leisurely.
No bears today because I brought my camera. Back just in time for the kick off between Germany and Spain.

Bicycle commute 30:00 [1]

Down to the track with Anita. Just mucked around at the track doing some strides and stuff. The track kids were doing the steeple chase with the small barriers and they had the water trap set up. It was still hot and I so wanted to run barefoot with them but held back. I just felt out of place with the 12 year olds and their high school coaches...

Trail running 1:25:00 [3]

Getting warmer here...
Went for a run up to FFTW with my running buddy. He got a couple swims in.

On the way home, when we were only 500m from the house, Regnly took off barking and treed a bear cub. It was very cute, probably about Regnly's size and had its arm over a branch to hold itself up. Since I was uphill from its tree, we were almost eye level to each other. I stopped and hollered a bit to scare any momma away then continued down past the tree the cub was up. Looked to my right as I went by and saw momma looking at me, only about 20m away. She held her ground and I finished the run. I wish I had my camera.

Trail running 55:00 [2]

Took my running buddy for a swim up at Shane Lk. Saw a black bear who actually had a coat that was cinnamon in colour - pretty cool. Have to remember to pay attention running into the wind.
