Orienteering race 2:23:45 [3] 5.21 mi (27:35 / mi) +168m 25:05 / mi

A fun, but tough course at Hickory Run (Hickory Run proved to me that it is "my daddy!" :-P). Really found the flatter parts the most difficult because I had a tendency to drift off of my compass' bearing. Once the terrain got more vertical, I felt I did much better. #3 was my worst control - I must have wandered aimlessly for 30 minutes until I passed that same little cliff a third time. Was several hundred meters too far south. Ran into several folks in my meanderings. Pretty much walked the whole thing as the area was distractingly beautiful and it was more of a learning event for me. Felt better on some controls, and at least I did not DNF!

For your amusements, my 5.21 misguided miles, with 1/6 pound of fat burned:

Afterwards, the course director says that many struggle in this park. A rough day in the woods is still better than many a generic day. :-) My heartfelt thanks to the folks who made this another fine event.

Cicadas made the woods sound like the mother ship was coming to take me away. No ticks, though!
