WIOL 2 @ Hamlin Park. A victory! 1:15 ahead of Bonesaw and 3min ahead of Peteris, though no Jourdan. This was a longer and different sort of course than most at Hamlin, with a lot of medium-longish route-choice runners' legs. Upon review I took at least two sub-optimal routes (4-5, 8-9) and 10-11 was also probably sub-optimal - though none cost me more than maybe 20s. I also bobbled 16, which is in a spot where the map and I have never agreed.

Need a ruling - one of my competitors (who shall remain nameless) decided that it was okay to jump the thick/double-ticked fences; his (in my opinion dubious) rationale was that it wasn't a sprint. He was duly derided and ridiculed by the rest of us afterward; our rationale being, uh, it's an ISSOM map? C'mon maaaan

A progressive tempo 5k (if that's a thing) around Green Lake plus some cool down, before the COC board meeting. Starting to come down with a cold, it seems.

An exploratory gallivant around Westcrest Park. Not a great place for running because it's pretty small and the trails are squiggly, but it would make a great park sprint map - though there is an off-leash area smack in the middle of it. At one point I turned a corner and came upon a massive pit bull standing in the trail looking at me, no one else in sight, so for a hot second I said well I guess today's the day my calf gets ripped off my leg like a chicken drumstick. Luckily, the owner then came into view; I looked askance at him but didn't say anything because I couldn't be entirely sure I hadn't somehow strayed into the off-leash area. I am aware that pit bulls are generally nice dogs like any other so I'm ashamed to say that the stereotype was the first thing that came into my mind.

So, to summarize the mapping potential:

Pros
Interesting trails; other interesting stuff; hills

Cons
Rogue pit bulls that might rip your calf off your leg like a chicken drumstick*

Map

Tiger Mountain training course set by Peteris, complete with flags and even e-punch! Some nice sections of forest but in general extremely rugged. Here the important thing is not how often you fall, but how well you can control your falls so that you fall safely without breaking or impaling yourself. I had only one bad one, where I was standing on/climbing over a log and my left foot slipped to the right so that it basically swept my right foot out and I flipped over and landed flat on my back on the ground next to the log.

I navigated fairly well; I was too low on the first control and had to climb back up 2-3 contours, but not too bad other than that. Also got stuck in a lot of dark green on the way to 8, but I didn't see a better route.
