Running warm up/down 12:00 [1]

Fast walk/jog to the start.

Orienteering 1:25:12 [3]
(sick)

I was still recovering from my cold, so I couldn't run as fast as normal. In some ways it might have been a good thing so that I had more time to navigate. Anyway, my goal was to have an attackpoint for every leg and it worked out pretty well. I had a couple of baubles but nothing too terrible. Mostly just hesitations as I approached the control. I got pulled a bit to the right on the fourth control by a bunch of other people, but spotted it and didn't lose much time. Oh, and I had sort of a dumb route to 1. I should have stayed on the trail for longer, but I just went straight at it which was kind of slow in the vegetation and the steepness.

Armchair 45:00 [0]
(sick)

Two Bulgarian maps Erin sent out, one from this week and one from last week. The terrain there is crazy! So many wiggly contours. I'm interested to see it in real life. I tried to identify an attackpoint for every route, even if it was a little out of the way. Some of the shorter legs I'd rely heavily on my compass and pace count.

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Still sick. I think I drank something like 5 cups of tea today (and counting...). It definitely could be worse though. I'll have to be careful to get enough sleep this week.

Orienteering (Control Pick) 1:00:00 [3]

Partner memory-O exercise with Jeff. We traded off with the map, taking turns memorizing the next leg while running. I need a lot more practice at this. I hadn't realized just how much I rely on frequent map checks to keep myself on course.

Orienteering (Attackpoints Exercise) 1:00:00 [3]

Practice choosing attackpoints. In general this was great, I've been having problems lately with my approach into the controls but after having thought out each attackpoint through I was able to hit most of the controls pretty well. I starting getting tired at the end though, and lost focus so didn't do as well towards the end.

Note

Great training today! It was a wonderful day, and I got some good practice! Thanks to Alex and everyone at CSU for organizing, as well as Jeff for giving me a ride :)

Note
(sick)

I was pretty tired after the training, and took a two-hour nap. I have a bit of a sore throat and am starting to sneeze. I think I might be coming down with the same crud as everyone else. I'll just try to get lots of sleep, take it easy tomorrow and hopefully I'll be better by West Point.
