We've been working with Maya lately with the training collar, and after a short outing during the wk, we decided it was time to really get her out in the woods. Headed to Shenandoah near Compton for the Overall Run/Heiskell Hollow hike. Great day, secluded parking area. It starts off pretty flat running through Heiskell then climbs up to Weedlewood and Mathews Arm before giving you great views of several big falls. Maya and Rico did so great. Can't believe I waited this long to use a training collar on Maya. Shocked her once the whole day. The buzzer setting is just as effective and what we use 99% of the time instead. Dusty slipped in a creek crossing and got half soaked early on. With about a mile to go, we hit our last crossing of the day. We had both gotten wet here on the way out, so I decided to try crossing a log downstream. Halfway across, it got really slippery and I tried to sit down. Proceeded to do a slow-mo fall into the creek upside down from 4 feet above the water. Dusty missed it, but I totally had a witness from an older couple watching upstream. Fail! Froze my tail off back to the car.
