Kings Landing - Red
21 controls; 6.6 km; 274 m

Actual Distance Traveled: 8.9 km
Actual Climb: 274 m

I'm not sure when Kings Landing was last used by QOC but this was my first time at this location. Despite the fact that there are no extremely long climbs or descents I still managed to find some very steep ones. On the whole I had a good time. I made a few little mistakes along the way and one big goof.

My big goof happened when I was loooking for control 120. I knew that I had to pass near 116 on my way to 120. Instead of finding 116 on my way to 120 I just assumed that I had passed it when I actually had not. The result was that I stopped heading west and started circling looking for 120 way too soon. What should have probably (at my speed) taken me no more than 10 minutes ended up taking me almost 20 minutes. My only excuses are that I got lazy and overconfident.

There was a section on the map that was marked private. I avoided it which forced me to travel through some very waterlogged terrain. I walked through ankle to calf-deep swampy mud and water in my efforts to navigate around the private land. In one case I even went knee deep. I was afraid I might lose a boot in the mud but thankfully they stayed on. I found out later that I didn't need to detour around the private land.

The weather was beautiful. I helped with control pickup afterwards.

I approve of this location and hope it gets used again on a regular basis even if that means just every other year.
