Orienteering race 47:00 [5]
I don't know the distance or pace, but it was a score-o. It was set to take 90 minutes, but it didn't turn out to do so. I think my biggest mistake was when I was arriving at #21. I was running up while a kid had just got there, punch in hand, and his family in tow. I was waiting for him to punch his punch card, but he was unsure at which control he had arrived. He yelled back to his family, "which control's code is A6?" They began searching the clue sheet. I just told him it was number 21, and once his family arrived, and I convinced them it *was* number 21, the boy punched. Then he handed the punch over to his brother who had his own punch card. After they finished punching I finally was able to punch. I then started running for number 5 when his mother yelled, "Have you been to number 23?" I slowed, checked my map, and responded, "No, it is that way." As I pointed off in the direction of number 23. I then ran to get number 5, number 22, and then I ran to number 23. As I arrived at the control and saw the same family approaching, I was relieved that I was going to get there a little before them. While I was punching their father said, "Oh, you just barely beat us!" I just laughed and responded, "Yeah." He clearly had no idea that I had gotten two controls in between our encounters.
