Walking 29:18 [1] 2.82 km (10:23 / km)

I get to go over all the maps and second guess myself now. Then do some goal setting for the new year. I've been studying the Friday night map from Hueston Woods. The main thing I would have done different is from 5 headed to the NE along the trail to the building and then picked up the road taken it across to the power line cut through. I would have picked up the horse trail there. Instead I went SE to the road took it to the main road and then took a right hand turn before heading across the disc golf course. One problem I noted was the utility cut through is really not passable except at trails and creeks. Solid thorns! Another interesting option would have been to go to the east of control 6 on the road and take the trail in. However, since the road was cut off there, it would have been hard for me to know the entry point from the road.

Oh well always fun to play what if - main thing for me take some cotton to clean the glasses with.

Orienteering race 1:23:54 [3] 4.8 km (17:29 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia NI

Very cold today, mid 20's with a strong breeze. An interesting course that for me featured 4 wet creek crossings. When I got back to the car the laces were frozen and I could not untie. Controls 4 to 14 on green featured controls in a flat area with minimal features. The vegetation was very thick here. After guessing on couple of these, I made myself start using the thumb compass. It was great practice for me with the thumb compass and rough pace counting. Glasses only fogged twice today.

Orienteering race 1:15:29 [4] 4.3 km (17:33 / km)
shoes: Jalas - Spiked

Did ok on a fun course. Got all controls but one of our relay members did not show. I ran the green course. Terrible weather conditions snow and then it rained hard today I'm glad Matt had make allowances in the course design. I had to stop at least a dozen times to clean off my glasses so I could see. This is not working.

Orienteering race 1:26:10 [4] 5.1 km (16:54 / km)
shoes: Jalas - Spiked

I was doing fine until the long leg from 5 to 6 on green. Then my glasses fogged. I had no cotton on me. Could never see again. I fell into a ravine broke the head lamp realized I has to go back and not finish the rest of the controls. Glad I had a second light. Snow covered ground. The spikes held well.

Walking 29:02 [3] 2.82 km (10:18 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia NI

Ordered INOV 8 shoes today. Active Gear up had slashed prices (49.95)to where I just had to try a pair. Only size left was a 14 - my size! Never ordered shoes over the internet before. We will see if this works.

Walking 29:22 [1] 2.82 km (10:25 / km)

We had a quick 1" burst of snow, then sunshine. We had an OLOU meeting tonight to hash out ideas for 2014. A lot still to think through but at least we have started the planning process.
