Adventure Racing race (Storm the Trent) 5:28:31 [3] 64.0 km (5:08 / km)
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3

STT trek course with Squirt, Jon, Matthew.

*updated time for actual results.

An awesome prologue to the race where 1 person from the team had to punch 3 CPs in town with a small map given out 5 mins before start. Reminded me of 2012 Adidas Terrex or 2012 Raid in France. Matthew ran to get the first CP then handed it over to me for the last 2. Was told we were 2nd place after this short section and then we headed off on bikes.

Hammered at the beginning, maybe too much as Matthew didn't have his bike legs today, maybe from the initial effort he put into the run. So we pulled off a little and made our way to CPB via road. Dropped bikes at CPB and headed out on foot for a 1.5km trail run to a CP where there was a map of the 3 Warsaw Caves Park CPs posted. We had to copy those CP locations onto our blank map for latter in the race! A cool little trick thrown in by STORM. On way in I made a nav error by thinking there was a trail cut-off we needed...wasted about 5 mins there.

Back on bikes and we continued onto CP3 via some trail and mostly road. At this point we hit more technical trail and our team struggled with this as some had little to no training on technical trail. Lots of teams passed us which really irked me! In any case we picked up the 2 CPs on the trail (old cabin and bridge) and made way out for road ride back to transition...tough hills on this section.

Transitioned to canoes and got a good cadence going. Were not able to catch anyone on this section, but just got it done. Onto trail run in Warsaw Caves and hit the 3 CPs straight-on without problems. Stopped once to help a team relocated themselves as they were going 180 degrees in wrong direction. Took a little short-cut bushwhack from the last CP on the ridge south of the canoe put-in...luckily we were not cliffed-out as we found a great pass over the ridge and down the cliff to the canoes (a little shout-out to Expedition Africa)!

Canoe back to finish...we finished around 5.28, not 100% sure right now. I think we missed-out on 3rd coed team by under 5 minutes! Ugh, really wanted that one.

Great race course by STORM and loved the prologue...also smiled at the signs along the race ribbing Tough Mudder. Great team with hard-work shown by all. Squirt looked strong throughout. Next year I'd like to field a team to do the Trek Elite.

Warm-up and cool-down along too busy Queen's Quay.

Strong ride along the waterfront trail. Tonnes of people were out, lots of weaving in-and-out.
