Note

All of my races were far from perfect, but HUGE confidence-boost from where I was before. I'd guess I had no errors over 5 minutes, and I corrected myself pretty well when I wasn't where I thought I was. One parallel error today was the closest I got to panicking. Overall, I also understood the rocks a lot better than I thought I would.

running 10:00 [3] 1.05 mi (9:31 / mi)

kept the running to a minimum. actually less than a minimum:)
9 AM

orienteering 1:49:50 [3] 8.8 km (12:29 / km) +330m 10:31 / km

First F-21+ Long ever!!! The goal was to survive, which I did.

Alexei's advice to use my compass more helped a lot. During the middle I had trouble seeing things on the ground, and so when I didn't find something, I had a very vague idea of where I was. The compass narrowed things down a lot.

What I had the most trouble with was reading ahead. Not sure how much of a difference it made, but I was really super bad at that today. Peter pointed out that since I didn't have the fitness to run up the hills I should've been planning then. I agree. I think that if I'd been doing my armchair exercises I wouldn't have had this problem. (It was just hard to find the motivation to do them when I hadn't orienteered in so long.)

Speaking of trouble reading ahead, I didn't see the last 2 long legs until right before. Thinking I was almost done, I didn't eat my food at 13 like I'd planned, and I was super-tired and sluggish on the last part of the course. It was a struggle to keep moving and also concentrating.
