Orienteering race 1:07:03 [4] 8.2 km (8:11 / km) +165m 7:26 / km
shoes: Icebug olx 2nd

QOC Morven Park Long. Fun event in one of the most open parks we have. Mass start, 3 short loops in a random order, then a long loop in common. Navigation was pretty easy, but there did seem to be some kind of force field around controls 2 and 3 on the forested hillside. I was with the two leaders Amber and Vido going up the hill, but when I went to where I thought 2 would be and it wasn't there, they lost me for good, and I joined a growing crowd of zombies apparently wandering in random directions in search of brains. This was one case when I would have been much better off to just follow.

Road running race 22:28 [5] 5.0 km (4:30 / km)
shoes: Adrenaline 16

Race for the Cure-DC 5k. I really don't know what to think about this. I ran hard but only managed the same time as I've been running in various tempo workouts this spring. I was fairly sure I'd be under 22 minutes, but missed that target by 30 seconds. Disappointing, for sure.

In terms of logistics, I'd much rather run 5k on the local track than at a race like this. Up at 5:30 to get on the Metro and make it downtown in time for an 8 a.m. start, not enough sleep, headache and a bad stomach, too cold to hang around afterwards, and basically discombobulated for the rest of the day.

And while I'm complaining, they said no bag drops, bring only what you can wear. Really? On a 50-degree day with rain in the forecast? Despite the size of the event it's not at all runner-friendly.

43rd out of 1,470.

Road running 32:30 [3] 3.8 mi (8:33 / mi)
shoes: Adrenaline 16

The usual morning loop. With 8 strides this time. No rain, but it rained last night, and it's going to rain today. And tomorrow, and the next day.

Road running 32:30 [3] 3.8 mi (8:33 / mi)
shoes: Adrenaline 16

Same loop again. I know I should be doing actual training, but I can't find the motivation. Still rainy today, but at least it was warm.

Core strength 20:00 [3]

4-min plank plus 5-min legs. And some other things thrown in, apres-run. My lower back was kind enough to remind me this morning of the importance of this stuff.

I signed up for the Komen 5k this Saturday.

Drumm Ave. to Capitol View and back down via St. Paul and Mccomas. Not really raining, but there was water in the air.
