Score-O's, man.

The Woodland Park Score-O is set up as a map exchange, so you clear 12 controls on Map 1, then exchange for Map 2.

Well, I think I clear the controls on Map 1, then I double-check my map and, "f#ck!" (that's a direct quote), I hadn't gotten the one by the cliff. So I turn around and trot back to get it, adding SIX MINUTES to my time.

I clear Map 2 in less of a hurry, since I'm now paranoid about skipping controls.

As it turns out, upon further examination of my splits. I HAD already gone to the control at the cliff. I visited it twice. DOH!

Score-O's are Brain Overload, but I guess that's why they're fun!

Note

How to Not Skip Controls in Score-O's, a conversation on Messenger

RJ:
Ok, so you know how at Corn Maze, I thought I skipped one on the first map, so I went back out to get it, but it turned out I had skipped two?
At Woodland Park today, I thought I had skipped one, so I went back out to get it, and it turned out later THAT I HAD ALREADY GOTTEN IT!!!
Ahhhhh!!! These score-o's, man

JULIE:
Well shoot ! There's only one way to make sure this doesn't happen again.

RJ:
Haha, what's that?

JULIE:
YOU MUST SHIT ON EVERY CONTROL

Road Cycling 30:00 [2]
shoes: Kona Jake the Snake

Riding around to bike shops, figuring out what fender set up I want.

I have a funny situation, where I'm switching between road and cyclocross all the time on the same bike, which makes it a bit more complicated. There are quick-mount fenders, but they're sort of crap. Settled on full fenders, and will have to suck it up with un/re-installing them. Hopefully I get a work stand for Christmas! ;)

Slept horribly/little last night, but still did a pre-breakfast ride this morning. Word on the street is that pre-breakfast workouts help promote weight loss, so I thought I'd do my easy bike rides that way.

Also, since I don't have a bike computer on my Kona, I estimate my "riding time" by deducting about 10 or 15 minutes per hour, depending on how much I think I've stopped at lights and such. I stopped at the bank today, so I docked 15min total.

Rode up to Woodland park, did an easy lap, then 3 hot laps with rest between each lap.

Had a moment going 'round a corner where I felt like I was floating a bit, and barely hanging on. I could interpret my tire performance 2 ways:

1) darn tires, losin' traction!
2) sweet tires, letting me ride the edge!

I'm going with 2 right now.

To the office downtown. Was mindful to ride a regular maintenance pace instead of going medium-hard.

I realized that I needed fenders for an upcoming team ride (the quick-mount sort), so I rode down to REI.

I ended up choosing the sort-of-quick-mount sort, installed them in the store, and hated them after a few blocks of incessant rattling. Fortunately, I bought them at REI, and I was able to turn right around and return them. ha.

But I was too embarrassed to go back and buy the regular quick-mounts, so I just rode home.

Nice day, though! Hard to beat sunny and 70 in Seattle.
