Hike 1:40:00 [1]

A long walk around Ballard!

Friday Apr 4, 2014 #

Trail Run 38:40 intensity: (10:00 @2) + (18:40 @3) + (10:00 @4)
shoes: Salomon Wings

Went to Trey's new trail shop in Issaquah to interview for Rock Creek Ramble-- and he had a route posted on his chalkboard... so I ran it!

Also, breaking in the Salomon Wings. Soft-rolled my ankle once. These are pretty bulky for running, but I'm still thinking they're a good idea for 24 hours of hiking... we'll see.

Started to feel the old blister in the arch of my foot by the end.

Road Cycling 1:20:00 intensity: (1:00:00 @2) + (20:00 @3)
shoes: Jamis Touring Bike

To/from Cap Hill via Dexter-- approx moving time.

Usually I don't participate in bike commuter "races," such as when the Fremont bridge goes down and a pack of cyclists goes racing up Dexter. However, this time my victory was route choice. Cyclist Joe and I parted ways at one stop light... only to meet again at another stoplight, to which I beat him by several minutes. YESSSS.

Road Cycling 1:00:00 [2]
shoes: Jamis Touring Bike

To/from Zoka

Body: toe has not been numb for awhile, probably due to taking time off the bike (and my bike shoes). Although hiking in my boots also turned it numb.

I have put the shims back in my shoe, and loosened the front strap, and my saddle is 1 or 2 mm higher.

This morning (Thursday) my R knee feels just a liiiiiiittle bit achey, maybe a result of the saddle height change.

I think I should just heat up my shoes a bit and use a wooden spoon to push out a pocket for my toes. :)

AAA, I LOVE ORIENTEERING HERE!

Performance highlights:
--Ran with Gina for the last third! Sort of glad I messed up 10 so that we ended up running together, hah. We both had moments of both goofing up and outsmarting the other. What fun. Can't wait for the Goat! I guess this doesn't relate to my "performance" but it was a "highlight!"

Performance lowlights:
--TERRIBLE route choice to 10, and laziness/wandering near the control. Just... dumb. I was thinking too much about Eileen (we were sort of running together), then I saw Kate and greeted her, and-- I don't know. Anyway, lost TEN MINUTES here (and 3 places).

Body:
--Something was digging badly enough into my heel that I stopped to take off my gaiter, take off my shoe, and empty my shoe of a rock (how did it get in??). Oh, right. That's just a blister. I have two giant blisters on both my arches (about 2" long), plus another blister on L ball of foot and L heel.
--Hah. Not so fresh today!

Gear:
--I chose the Fellraisers for their cush, but I preferred the nimbleness of the X-Talons. The Talons give me better ankle mobility, and the lugs are deeper and more square, plus the rubber is extremely tacky. This terrain really highlighted the Talon's strengths.
