Had planned to go to the gym with KT but she bruised her heal so we relaxed, cooked, ate, and did some shopping instead. Took a trip to REI to check out some gear for Untamed.

Adventure Racing 6:46:00 [0] 39.36 mi (10:19 / mi) +4900ft 9:14 / mi

KE and I decided to drive up for this race, even though we already had a team racing, because we wanted to get more racing in before Untamed. We joined forces with JP and had a great time. Course was fairly simple because it is supposed to be a good beginner race. Our familiarity with the area made it even more simple. Still good training physically and mentally. We finished first overall and earned valuable points for ECARS.
8 AM

Trail Running 34:00 [4] 4.36 mi (7:48 / mi) +150ft 7:33 / mi
shoes: Asics 2110

Simple out and back to the campground near Stonerville, up the creek from Cumberland Falls. It was humid and hazy. The girls were running strong but I was hurting to keep up. I suffered a little because I knew I would feel better when we got onto the bikes.

We were the first ones back to the TA. There was one solo right behind us.

Mountain Biking 48:00 [4] 4.5 mi (5.6 mph) +1300ft
shoes: Scott Scale 29er

Climb up Baughman trail to the ski area. Trail was a little wet but as rideable as always. I felt stronger and was able to give JP a push the last section of the climb.
9 AM

Trail Running 1:26:00 [4] 6.6 mi (13:02 / mi) +600ft 12:00 / mi
shoes: Asics 2110

We climbed to the top of Firetower and then had to capture a CP down the pipeline from the Firetower. The next point was the paddle put in. We could go back to the firetower and take the road down or shwack down the steep slope and then run the rail trail to the put in. We chose the later which would save us 3k. Our plan was to go down the shallowest spur. Instead we tried following the pipeline clear cut for a while but eventually got too steep. We then decided to try and stick more to the spur. We did a little but then had to go down a steeper side spur. Not too bad but we should have stuck to the spur originally.
11 AM

Paddling (Duckies) 1:38:00 [4] 8.7 mi (5.3 mph)

Put in at Ramcat Rapids and paddled down the Middle Yough. JP had thought the river was a little low but it was actually at a decent flow. Higher than it has been the last few times I have paddled it.

KE and I paddled the double and we towed JP in the single.
12 PM

Trail Running 1:00:00 [4] 4.5 mi (13:20 / mi) +1300ft 10:28 / mi
shoes: Asics 2110

Ran to the train station to refill water and then ran up Baughman back to our bikes. KE was strong as a bull so she pulled JP. I ran alongside and gave an occasional push.
1 PM

Mountain Biking 1:20:00 [4] 10.7 mi (8.0 mph) +1100ft
shoes: Scott Scale 29er

Hopped back on our bikes and rode to the top of Pressley ridge via the pipeline. Then dropped down Pressley Ridge to the last CP. From their rode back to the bottom of Sugarloaf Knob and then rode down Sugarloaf Trail to the finish.

Didn't push my legs too hard. Just trying to put some more miles in them without killing myself for the race tomorrow.

Spent a good bit of time at the lights. Road by another commuter that does the first half of my commute.
4 PM

Commuting 56:20 intensity: (2:52 @0) + (6:12 @1) + (22:18 @2) + (22:08 @3) + (2:50 @4) 16.39 mi (17.5 mph) +950ft

Started raining just as I got outside. All the dark clouds were past though when it opened up. Strong wind made the rain piercing though. Stuck to the bike path until Springfield. Rain eased off by then. All the roads inside the beltway were dry and the sun was out and hot for the last third of the ride.

Foot was bothering me when I got home. Doesn't bode well for the race tomorrow.

Strength 30:00 [2]

Gym with KT. Have been slacking in this area and my arms were noticeably weak.

Stretching 5:00 [0]

Trail Running (Trail) 22:01 intensity: (21 @0) + (28 @1) + (3:05 @2) + (17:40 @3) + (27 @4) 2.94 mi (7:29 / mi) +89ft 7:17 / mi
ahr:149 max:162 shoes: Asics 2110 (#2)

Ran to the HS from the gym/work. Did a few loops on the fields and then ran home. Legs felt weak. Hopefully the race will provide some good hill training.

Mountain Biking 1:15:58 intensity: (41 @0) + (24:07 @1) + (38:02 @2) + (13:08 @3) 12.5 mi (9.9 mph) +568ft
ahr:134 max:159 shoes: Scott Scale 29er

Took the new ride to Wakefield. Wooded trails were still a little wet which meant slow going. Powerline trails were pretty dried.

Did a 5 minute warmup then did a large loop and then did a W@W loop before riding back to the car. I was not going full speed but was surprised that I was able to do the W@W loop in 19 minutes. A decently competitive time without taking into consideration the conditions.

Not the greatest workout but good practice with the new bike on some technical trails.
