Hiked up Buffalo Mountain in Floyd, VA with KT and Baxter. Great panaromic view from the top. Elevation 3971ft This was my first time up the mountain. KT got a great pic of us looking out off the rocks. Almost got stuck on a washed out section of the access road.

Trail Running 1:42:00 [3] *** 10.8 mi (9:27 / mi) +2560ft 7:43 / mi
shoes: Scott ERide Grip

Ran Rock Castle Gorge Trail at Rocky Knob State Park in Floyd, VA. This is one of my favorite runs and is located at milepost 167 along the Blue Ridge Parkway. I chose to run the loop counterclockwise for the first time. This meant I finished the run with a 4 mile 1850ft climb. That averages out to about 9% grade and include 1.1 miles of 17% grade (970ft).

Most of the trail is quite technical as well. It is a beautiful trail too. I started running along the top of the ridgeline with views out to the NC piedmont and then dropped 1000 ft into a pristine gorge with a strong flowing creek. You drop another couple hundred feet running along the creek and then climb all the way to the high point.

Baxter joined me today. This was definitely his longest run. He hung in there but was moving just as slow as me up the last climb.

The weater was BEAUTIFUL. Comfortable in shorts and a tshirt.

Stretching 10:00 [0]

Quick stretch so I could make it back in time for Thanksgiving Dinner.

Need to stretch my hammies out better later as I seemed to have pulled the left one a little bit.

Note

The side of my shins (low) are very sore. I think it may be my IT bands just above the ankle but I have never had soreness on the side of my shins like this. Must be from running from rock to rock and fell tree to fell tree so much yesterday. Must have required more stability strength than I am used to.
