Note

The side of my shins (low) are very sore. I think it may be my IT bands just above the ankle but I have never had soreness on the side of my shins like this. Must be from running from rock to rock and fell tree to fell tree so much yesterday. Must have required more stability strength than I am used to.

Note

After both the Blue and Relay races this is one of the worst times my shins/legs have been cut up, adventure races included. I had a good bit of blood on my shins as well.

Orienteering 1:27:05 [4] **** 4.79 mi (18:11 / mi) +920ft 15:23 / mi
spiked:8/22c shoes: INOV8 Roclite 295

Was fairly happy with my performance. Last time I orienteered in this area I DNF'ed. This was a huge improvement. It certainly helps to know what a charcoal platform actually looks like, the clue for it, and the symbol on the map.

I would have liked to have finished a little closer to the front 4 guys that I am usually right behind. I took bad bearings to the first two points and then had to deal with major bramble on my way to CP7 due to a poor route choice (I now know what green lines mean). Shortly after that Ken came up behind me and I managed to stay ahead of him for the last 30 minutes.

Running through the bramble really taxed me mentally and physically and I slowed down noticeably. Ken's motivation (unintentional) got me going again. I made a few small mistakes on the back half but still made good time.

Orienteering race 33:45 [4] *** 3.75 km (9:00 / km) +450ft 7:36 / km
spiked:3/8c shoes: INOV8 Roclite 295

I was the second leg of the relay with Ken and Francis. This leg was just about as time consuming as the third leg due to us having to enter a fenced area. I could not really see the gates to enter on my map and lost a few minutes getting inside the fence. I left cleanly. All my other controls were pretty clean except I way overshot the last control and lost several minutes.

The bramble inside the fence was horrendous. I don't see why controls were placed in here. The bramble was bad and gates hard to find on the map.

This again taxed me mentally and physically. I was able to recover well after I left the fence though and had some strong clean splits to the next couple of controls.
