Orienteering 1:50:00 [3]

OOCup Day2:

Different Plateau (Menina Planina) today here in Slovenia, but a quite nice venue as well. A more technically and physically demanding race, with tough footing all through it, and some steep uphill route-choices.

For me, same goal as yesterday, getting out injury-free. And it worked again, though I had to be really careful today, ending +40min from the lead. Tough to compete if I'm walking 2/3 of the time, but I think it's good for my ankle to slowly work again on tough terrain without too much risk of overworking it. I stopped once or twice when I was getting tired and could not control my footing perfectly, and was overall quite happy of another successful training day in the forest.

Had awesome Gulash soup (or Golaz in Slovenian) with OBT after the race in the hut near the finish area, and then headed back home to Trieste for a 6pm swimming sesh at the beach.

No OOCup planned tomorrow for us, in order to well recover this week in time for WUOC, but hopefully a good training near where I live.

Event: OO Cup 2014

Orienteering race 1:40:00 [3]

OOCup Day1:

I was told by some Slovenian friends not to miss this year's OOCup, and they were right! Great first stage on the plateau called Velika Planina, with beautiful open areas, great views of the cloudy mountain ranges nearby, and a tricky wood on the far side of the map. Also, some very peculiar mountain huts were scattered all across the plateau, between one herd of cows and another.

My ONLY goal for this week is not o get my ankle twisted again, and that goal was beautifully achieved today. Had to walk large parts of the race, slow-jog the others, as Slovenia is not the most forgiving terrain for injury recovery, but achieved my goal. At slow speeds the taping held well, and I was surprised to actually not lose too much from the leaders doing this. I guess it does pay off sometimes to be clean, and I hardly ever moved from the red line today, making no mistakes.

I also really enjoyed running up and down the plateau from/to the parking-lot, making it a 1h40min session overall (Race 58min, + 10 on leader).

Easy Run 1:00:00 [3]

Afternoon Training:

Staying with Olivier and other French friends in Kamnik for the night, me OBT and Remi decided to go on a relaxed evening training session.

30min jog
+ 10x (30s slow - 30s fast) on a nearby track
+ 12x (50s exercise -10 rest) core workout.
+ 6min cool-down.

If only I could put in training days like this Friday, everyday!

Easy Run 1:00:00 [3]

Pre OOCup:

Olivier (OBT), a friend from Grenoble came over with me to Trieste to get to OOCup tomorrow. Today we went for an easy jog on the sea-side, all the way to the Miramare Castle of Trieste, old and beautiful Austrian-Hungarian summer residence for Sissi and the other emperors of pre WWI MittleEuropa.

Ended the session with a 15min (50s -10s) core workout and a nice swim in the Adriatic.

Also, first day running on my ankle in 3 weeks, and, despite some small pain, it was encouraging!

Bike-ride 1:00:00 [3]

Just 1 hour, didn't have time for more on my last day in Grenoble, and it was also raining.
Tomorrow, back to Trieste for what is left of this summer.

Core Workout 30:00 [3]

30x 1 min:

30s muscle work - 30s ankle work.

The perfect combo (+ music) to have fun while doing ankle exercises, and at the same time also train a bit the rest of my body : ).

Bike-ride 3:00:00 [3] 53.0 km (3:24 / km) +1000m 3:06 / km

Awesome bike ride from work to St Nizier, then Lans en Vercors and back down the other valley. +1000m of climb and 53km took more than I expected, so during the last bit downhill, quite steep, darkness overtook me. Still, made it down ok to the bike paths in the valley, and back to the experiment I have been following all week-end. This session definitely helped me find some good motivation for my last 3 days at work!!
