Overall, I think this was a good highlander for me. I didn't get massive blisters, make big mistakes, or hurt myself. Going in without any orienteering in the last 4 months, those were the things I was most worried about. I felt comfortable during the first loop, mostly good during the trail run, and then gradually more weary after that. maybe could have gone faster with someone to push me on the last loop. top 3 would have been nice. definitely a thinner field than last year.
I had been having problems with blisters in this pair of shoes (usually wearing thin liners under neoprene socks), but this time wore regular sport socks under my neoprene, which was great. I guess the problem with the liners is that they are too thin and I eventually get hot spots right through them.
a few 15-30s mistakes and one 90sec. if you believe the AP calculations, then I lost less time than anyone else. I'll take it.
Gu at -20, 0:40,1:20, 2:00, 2:40, no other solid food. I think that was fine.
noticed that at some point recently I accidentally enabled a new split analysis feature, which shows how much farther than the official distance your track is on each leg. I meant to keep it off until I was sure it was in a format useful enough to warrant the additional numbers crowding the split analysis table. but I'll leave it for now.
