Knee, Other

2008-05-22 – 2008-06-27

Grade: 2

Patello-femoral Pain Syndrome (aka Runner's Knee); affecting both knees. Reoccuring injury from my youth from doing a combo of ballet and runnign. A lot on the knees at once. Studied ballet for 11 years and ran in school for 3 years. Overcame once one activity subsided (running season ended and continued ballet; quit ballet at 16 and picked up running again); also lots of PT. Going back to PT starting on May 29.

Cause - Went into training too fast and hard (picked up speed quickly and doing lots of races); had not been running for years due to back/neck/hip injuries incurred from auto accident. Progressed too quickly before body could strengthen.

PT helped it, in addition to some massage therapy sessions; daily exercises and stretching, and 5 minute pre-run warm up follow by 10-minute post-run cool down walk and lots of stretching.

Syndrome will reoccur. these warm ups, cool downs, stretches, and knee tape (Kinesio) will help. Had syndrome since Jr. High from ballet and x-country and track.
