L Foot, Other

2008-03-27 – 2008-03-30

Grade: 1

This is a chronic ankle injury from years of abuse. For a 6 week period in fall 2004 the ankle was locked in a dorsiflex position (foot stuck pointing down) but then spontaneously cured itself just prior a scheduled surgery. X-rays indicated much damage in there, including a deteriorated talus, spurs and mice (floating bone chips) in and around the joint. Possibly the dorsiflex problem was a larger bone chip lodged in the joint, that then became dislodged. The ligaments are also very weak, with a 50% chance of an ankle roll on any given run on rough terrain. As a prophylactic, I use 4 pieces of tape (2 as anchors) before any run which has been 100% effective in stopping serious ankle rolls. I also use ice and ibuprofen after a hard run. The ankle has been sore lately due to increased training volume.

3 days without running seemed to work ...will find out tomorrow.
