L Arm, Fracture

2016-02-28 – 2016-06-20

Grade: 3

Broke radius just at wrist -- clean break with no displacement. Not very big. Crossing river before 3ed control on logs that looked engineered for crossing. Almost to other bank when log rolled underneath me. I fell on log (on hip then back) and landed on sand below. Kind o'er responded to my request for help and helpled me use my QOC buff to splint it. Not too much pain then (adrenaline!( and wanted to finish course. Finished 3rd control, looked at steepness of next slope, and decided not to be stupid. A coupleof other o;ers offered to walk me back to start or use cell p0hone to call fo rhelp. But it was a beautiful day and I enjoyed the walk. Until the last 20 meters, when pain and tears set in. Vicoden for three days put me into la-la-land. Moving it around was still painful for more than a week. Happy to o after 2 weeks, though it throbbed through much of the course. Also had to be careful and sometimes go very slowly to avoid falling on it again --especially on some steep slopes at Needwood Lake. Cast is like a walking advertisement for o'ing. QOC people were amazingly kind and helpful taking care of me at Happyland (name of this chapter in my o saga: Happyland to Happyland), especially Heidi and John. Colleague Renee drove my car to hospital, picked me up and drove me home. Needed Susan to take top off painkillers later, and couldnt undo my bra! Kind of surreal to have broken something.

Likely to hurt for a year. Stiffness continues and will continue to work on flexing it. Will wear splint when orienteering probably until 2017 -- just to protect. Hurts most when driving car -- go figure.
