R Lower Leg, Other

2014-06-08 – 2015-02-04

Grade: 2

Update> It turns out that my shin splints were actually a stress reaction featuring swollen periosteum and bone marrow edema... ugh!

My tibialis posterior is a bit swollen and painful. I have a feeling this is due to overuse from increased mileage without strength training hips and glutes. Had a race physio do a painful "massage" on race day, but it doesn't seem to be getting better. Time to hit the pool!

Update - November 8, 2014: My leg hasn't hurt since about early Sept. I not been running :( but I have been cross training (pool, stationary bike) and only in the past 2 wks have I started adding in regular "weight-bearing" exercise (elliptical, Army Camp class).

Having a rest week every 4th week seems like a better approach than what I tried last Spring when I kept adding mileage steadily. Leg feels good though I haven't had another MRI to see for sure.
