R Foot, Impact wound / trauma

2007-04-08 – 2007-04-14

Grade: 3

Puncture wound from a large spliter (inch long stick) inserted into my right foot from the top, just above my little toe.
The wound seems clean and small, but my foot is quite swollen. While I was able to jog slowly to complete the race, I had trouble walking for the rest of the day. St John ambulance cleaned up the wound.
The day after was the worst. Walking was very difficult because of the swelling. The swelling was increasing around the whole foot.
On TuesdayI saw a doctor. He prescribed 2 types of antibiotics - 1 for the surface and 1 for deeper bacteria. He referred me to have an ultrasound. The swelling and redness was worse, and I feared that there may be something still inside my foot, which may require surgery to remove.
Antibotics, ice and elevation began to kick in on Wednesday and the swelling came down. Walking was mostly comfortable. The ultrasound revealed no foreign bodies, just trauma and localised cellulitus around the wound.
Thursday was better again. Limited swelling now, and I managed a couple of run throughs.
By Friday morning, jogging was possible, and most of the swelling was gone.
