R Foot, Other

2012-02-09 – 2012-07-16

Grade: 4

Ankle reconstructed on 9th February.

Injury originally sustained April 2010 - rolling foot in hole on Craggs, damaging lateral ligaments in right foot (middle of three lateral that run down the side of the ankle).

Physio failed to remedy the chronic ankle instability (attempted to build up support around damaged ligament.) After 18 months of on-off running it went again end of October 2011 and I was informed I required an ankle reconstruction. It had got to the point that I would roll my ankle walking down the road if there was a slightly wonky paving slab..

Had the middle of my lateral ligaments on my right foot repaired via an incision. Also had an arthroscopy via two key-holes to remove a little bit of bone and scar tissue and generally clean the joint up.

Just under 3 months post-operative and well on the mend, just in the process of returning to running. Aim to be signed off and able to run when I want, as much as I want and as hard as I want by August - physio reckons well on target to achieve this.

16th July my physio is going to sign me off so a good time to consider this resolved. Need to take it very careful building up of course and a long way to return to fitness. Expect quite a few niggles etc next few months and just have to be sensible

Looks like the operation was a success so just need to be careful and build up appropriately!
