Race Evaluation

US Individual Championships (Sprint/Middle/Long/Trail): Sprint - Green

Nadim

1. Moving steady to get into the map. Slipped going down the hill to the control and expected it a little sooner.
2. +00:16Ran along the parking lot and had a pause when a truck started to drive onto the sidewalk. I went into the right area but paused at the underpass, thinking I might have been up against the next building. I had visually seen white on the map for the overpass and interpreted it as sidewalk; I would of expected a darker light grey for the overpass.
3. From the right side but with a slight pause at the top of the stairs. The clue descriptions would have helped me but I was remembering more where I was rather than what number. Pausing to read it didn't make sense and the clues seemed small to my eyes.
4. Straight along the sidewalk and along the building.
5. +00:25Up the stairs and into the alley. When I saw it was blocked, I ran back around the building.
6. Around the right side and to the corner.
7. +00:05Paused to read ahead and make sure what was ahead. I also thought the mapped fence was more of a wall. Along the road but I wasn't sur about which side the contol was on. I cut left before the control to look in, then backed out and around.
8. Around the right side.
9. To the right on the road, then in. It was just about visible from the road.
10. Looking for the round building; to the right. I started analyzing route options for the 11 to 12 leg.
11. Still analyzing route options for the 11 to 12 leg.
12. A little bit of wavering and listening to Peggy yelling for me to commit to a route, then run hard. I chose left to avoid climb. I didn't run as hard as possible, mostly to stay in contact with the map. After the bridge, I missed the right fork, thinking straight was better but with the fence ahead, I cut right at the top any way.
13. +00:18Around to the left but I stopped above the control, having misinterpreted the small yucky green as real green. I was expecting the control a little further ahead but couldn't see any real green of the size mapped. I almost crossed the garden but turned to the left with some noise from that area.
14. On the road and through the gap. I saw the other control and other runners but the fence was a dead giveaway.
15. Dog-leg back, then up the sidewalk to he building.
16. Over the bridge but not so fast down the stairs.
17. Down the hill straight along the trees. I wasnt sure of the purpose of this control. Perhaps it was to keep us out of the strip of green.
18. Running a little faster.
F. Slowish start but a good effort overall. I worry about running fast these days for injury risk but this felt okay. I suppose I need to build back the speed by doing more speed training.
