Race Evaluation

NEOC Spring Rock Festival and Intercollegiates: Red 2

PBricker

1. Started slow and careful. Angled right of line to the trail. Then, I was going to take the trail along the green that ended before the control, but it didn't look very appetizing, so I continued on to the trail that pased east of the control, attacking from the beginning of the stone wall.
2. +00:10A bit disoriented leaving the control and headed to far north. But quickly corrected to the open area, cutting across the white to the road, and then up the small stream to the flag.
3. Straight, jogging up the hill.
4. Along the marsh, around the big cliff, and spiked it.
5. Well below the cliff, traversing the rocky hillside (slow), but read the contours and the rocks right to it.
6. +00:30Took the trail along the marsh a ways, then to the left of the laurel, and spiked it. But not a good route choice because it added two lines of climb, and the trail along the marsh was slow.
7. +01:15Below the big cliff, then angled up towards the stone wall corner. Got caught up enjoying the open running in the flat area between the two hillsides and overshot quite a bit.
8. Aimed a bit right, then down along the hillside right to it.
9. +00:30Pretty much straight, staying to the right of the most the laurel, but got caught up in some. I didn't have a good attack point, and was lucky not to miss it. Looks like going low along the stream and marsh and then up the trail would be a better choice.
10. Left of line, over the stone wall to the trail. Felt like forever climbing up the hill.
11. +00:15Route choice was to angle to the road, then come in the backside from the trail, thus avoiding the big marsh. But the marsh extended further then mapped, and was greener to boot where I came in. So probably lost a little time.
12. Stone wall corners to trail and in.
13. +00:20To the trail end, then straight down the hillside. But when I got to the bottom, it took me a couple seconds to realize I had missed to the right (towards the bridge). I should have taken the miss-proof route, swinging around on the trail.
14. As fast as I could go. Boulder was closer to the field then mapped, but no matter.
15. Slog up the hill. Came in a tad right.
16. Along the field and down the spur.
17. Straight, on a contour. Not worth climbing back to the field.
18. +00:30Didn't miss this by much, but a winding route and some hesitation cost me. Started right of line to avoid climb, then swung back to the E-W stone wall and attacked from there, but somehow missing a bit left.
19. Careful going down the hill.
F. Slowed a bit by the sand?
