Race Evaluation
2001 Billygoat Run:

| 1. | Tried to keep track. Not making many decisions of my own until the last 1/3 | ||||||
| 2. | left #1 90 degrees off and cursed myself shin-deep in a green swamp. Dropped in behind JJ who left correctly. Not sure who is ahead of us...think maybe Greg and Alexey...others. | ||||||

| 6. | Came out of 4 90 deg off again. Crossed stream and when faced with a climb looked back at the map. Heard 2 sets of footprints behind me, but didn't look to see who. Joe B came out correctly and said "hello!" as we went by. Then he "hurt himself" on a post in the middle of a bridge. :) Went left at the end to attack from fence corner, as I wasn't sure where I crossed the fence. | ||||||

| 8. | Through clearing, then ended up low on trail by trickle. Had to climb back up. | ||||||
| 9. | Heard Greg B. shout that he forgot his map on the table at the aid station. Crossed on the dam, left on small trail then straight. | ||||||

| 11. | Didn't see trail through green. Went right in white woods and down along stony to clearing, around through N end of swamp. Greg came out of the woods and told me to get out of the swamp. | ||||||
| 12. | With Greg B now. He said "Are you ready to swim, Eddie?" I said I forgot my snorkel or something like that. Then he suggested going around and I took a look and agreed. | ||||||

| 15. | We crossed the stream early and got off the map a little, but just ran S to trail. Discussed route to 17 along the way. Decided on left. | ||||||

| 17. | Left. Took some leftover water in the start triangle. Saw Orlin and Alexey coming in from the rt at the control. We all punched together. | ||||||
| 18. | Attacked off small reentrant. Massive rock. | ||||||
| 19. | Greg says "3 former eastern block and one american" Jokes about the not-so-cold war. Cut in on second wall junction, through stream junction. Orlin went farther right - got there at the same time. Greg and Alexey just behind. Last I saw them. | ||||||
| 20. | Went right of pond and straight over hill before I noticed trail, which I guess Orlin was running on to my left. Down to trail, slight jog rt to end of green, then in, over the top and down the other side picking off rocks. Orlin came in from the left and we punched together. | ||||||
| 21. | Punched with Orlin. | ||||||
| 22. | Straigh, jog left on road to smaller trail. Pulled up short on pace. Finally pushed on. Punched maybe 10s ahead. | ||||||
| 23. | Along cliff tops, past sleeping couple. Orlin maybe 15s back | ||||||
| F. | Frantic at this point. Checked and re-checked the junctions along the way. Saw last junction but continued to clearing for sure-thing. |
