Race Evaluation

QOC Mason Neck State Park: Green

Nadim

1. This was my second course. I had a couple minutes of break after running Blue. I went fairly straight to #1. I almost lost track of which reentrants I had crossed but seeing the trail in one helped.
2. I wanted to do this control better than the last time. I came out a bit to the left. Attacking from the bend, I hit it perfectly, as a couple attacking from my right missed it a bit to the left like I'd done earlier.
3. Along the marsh to the end and to the control.
4. +07:30I was intending to hug the green so as not to miss the scattered open which I'd attacked from earlier. However, I went through the gap in the green and ended-up getting lost. I had a hard time telling what was up and what was down in the terrain. I decided to loop back to relocate when I recognized reaching the scattered open trees. I still missed on my attack, hitting the unmapped ditch north of it first.
5. I kept a good straight line and there was no vegetation to push me off line. I knew what to expect from going to the control during the Blue course earlier so I had no trouble zeroing in on it.
6. I enjoyed running straightish. I moved around some of the mapped deadfall and started to cross the valley as it started to bend. The ditch in the middle helped me be sure of where I was so I followed reentrants in from there.
7. +01:00I ran straight but drifted left. Fortunately I hit the marsh. I was getting ready to bail to the road but the marsh let me know how to correct.
8. I went straight but drifted left a bit. Crossing the reentrants to the south cued me in to a successful attack.
9. +00:10I read side reentrants and curves as I crossed the second long reentrant. I missed by being a bit to the right but corrected with some others in the area.
10. I used the road and came-in when the road straightened.
11. +06:15My GPS track on this does not match-up with what I saw. I missed the control initially by being a bit to the left. Seeing the trail, I thought I was really making a mistake. I had a hard time understanding the angle of the trail enough to pin my position. I decided I was too close to the trail so going south, I ended up at the blue course rootstock. Going back, I missed again. Again thinking I was too near the trail, I went south and this time I hit a water pit that I mistakenly went to when running the Blue course. Coming back, I missed again! However this time, I figured out what was happening with the trail. I hit it from there.
12. I crossed the longish reentrant to the south and looke for the end of the spur.
F. I started to make a 180 as another woman headed off in more or less the right direction. I suppose I was getting tired/brain dead. In this race, I was disappointed at making 2 large errors. Before the race I'd hoped to get finished in under an hour.
