Race Evaluation

WCOC/HVO Winter Series 2020: Green WS#6

cmorse

1. Straight, R of cliff, L of hill
2. +00:10stayed low below rock, up rentrant and across trail, got off slightly L and investigted boulder on NE edge of circle before realizing I was slightly high and looked back to see the more likely boulder
3. straight & cautious
4. again, straight and cautious keeping close tabs on contours and feature placements
5. up hill to trail junction, hoping it was apparent with the recent logging activity. It was. Then a straight compass shot to the marsh and right in.
6. straight, carefully checking contours, walls, trails and bare rock on the line.
7. originally considered going L of the rocky bits, but the low road looked fine, so went R of the rocky stuff through the (non-)green and in.
8. +00:10W to the marsh then following line of hilltops across the top and then L of the hill above control. A little off as the boulder seemed a little off relative to the cliff above. Easy correction
9. +00:35Careful over the top through the rocky bits, but didn't see a viable route around, got a little bit N of control and got confused by an additional unmapped trail in the general vicinity so paused to figure out what was going on, then sorted it out {edit} it appears the extra trail was the first small trail, which took me quickly off my intended route, so I ended up with too many trails once I actually turned downhill..
10. along the line, slow in the rocky bits, to the trickle, across and up slope to the boulder.
11. +00:45straight through the marsh then down the hill to what should have been an easy control (saw it from well up the hill) but a lot of brambles in the timber harvest area slowed my progress significantly as well as drawing quite a bit of blood.
12. A slow picking through the rocks and brambles and logging slash, but wound up at the correct location none the less.
13. Picking the best line through slash up to trail, then on bearing from trail junction, past wall/trail junction, staying below the rockier mess, across the rocky reentrant and up.
14. +00:10straight on bearing, a little slow climbing but also trying to visualize the whole hillside and the control siting against that backdrop. Started shifting a little left to a boulder just beyond the control, but corrected quickly
15. +00:30straight, counting trail crossings, then using rocky reentrants but apparently overshot by one, hesitated, then came back
F. down to the trail and back
