Race Evaluation

Wrentham State Forest: Red

PBricker

1. To junction, then trail right of line, staying on it past the junction going west up the hill, then pretty much on the line, attacking from big boulder.
2. Trail to stone wall corner. Then just a bit right of the line to avoid some climb, across the shallow reentrant and right to it.
3. +00:30Indecision. Headed east with the plan of taking the trail left of line. But didn't like the veg, so headed south and then took the trail right of line and followed the stone wall. Should have kept with the original plan.
4. +01:00Trail around and then just went right by the boulder I wanted and was drawn to another boulder. Really bad; lost about a minute on this white control.
5. Took the trail left of line. Then, cut down to the marsh too early and had to fight some thick veg before getting to the flag.
6. +06:00Horrendous. Took trails to about 100 meters north of the control, but then got disoriented and headed back north. Not helped by having misread the map around the cotrol, thinking the green was on a knoll, not in a low area. So when I started climbing, it seemed to make sense; until it didn't. Fortunately, I got to a trail pretty quickly and figured out where I was; but now I was 300 meters NNW of the control. Painful.
7. Trails, between the marshes, and right to it.
8. +00:20Pretty straight. Didn't check the clue (top of cliff) until I hit the trail and didn't see a flag. Then right to it.
9. Due east until I hit the trail. Then trails all the way.
10. Straight, no problems.
11. Just wanted to get to a trail, but that was easier said then done. Started north, but the white woods weren't so white, so I just bashed my way northwest until I got free. At the end, I followed the stone wall, over the knoll, right to it.
12. Took the trails way around to the right. Attacking from the east, I got caught up in some serious vines. Took some time to get disentangled and make it to the stone wall. Then the flag was right there.
13. +01:20Left of line, taking bits of trails. I don't know why, but I was sure the cliff on the left side of the trail was more in the center of the circle, so I searched there some time for the flag. (I sometimes don't see them, even when they're right in front of me.) Eventually headed back down the trail along the other cliff, and there it was. More than a minute lost on a white control!
14. South to main trail, east to junction, then cut the corner and bushwhacked to the trail I wanted. Easy.
F. Went south on the trail all the way to the junction, then trail to the finish (even though I'm sure it would have been faster to go straight.
