1. | Still sick. Took more drugs. Just figured I could get around reasonably cleanly, but obviously still not able to move fast.
2. | |||||||
3. | Trails to right. Passed by Alexi. Kenny was just ahead of me as I arrived, but he bobbled it a bit.
4. | Not paying enough attention to compass and drifted right. Had this lame idea that I knew where I was, thinking that I had crossed the trail without seeing it. But then I hit the trail, and figured out where I really was without too much trouble. Boris just ahead as I came through the logged area to the control.
5. | I think I saw Eddie behind me, and there was a cadet around as well.
6. | Cadet passed me on the trail, but he turned left at the last junction, while I headed into the woods. I think I saw Eddie behind me again.
7. | Intended to go straight, but was a little right. Hit the small trail 300 m S of the control as Eddie ran by. No harm done, and I had a decent attack point. Headed into the woods, and when I looked around all I could see was hills, but all the map was showing me was holes. Couldn't manage to read between the lines and figure out where the non-holes were on the map, so I just kept reading the compass. Eddie was to my left, and I had figured that he must have missed, but the splits indicate that he must have read his way through and gotten to the control ahead of me. I slowed down and climbed a hill, which I correctly concluded must be the one 120 m SW of the control.
8. | Woods, indistinct trail, more woods, another indistinct trail, and got to the power line. Saw Alexi and Kenny on their way back. Obvious straightish route from there.
9. | Caught by Syd. Wasn't sure it was really him, because he was wearing long pants.
10. | Syd passes me and arrives just ahead, but he pauses to drink, so I leave first.
11. | Didn't see Syd and wondered if he somehow got ahead of me.
12. | Obvious mostly trail route, with occasional glances over my shoulder to see if Syd was back there. I never saw him, but he later told me that he could see me. As I neared the control, a cadet asked if I knew where we were. He recognized me, but I wasn't paying too much attention, and didn't realize who it was until later. Didn't know how to describe where we were, so I couldn't really help him, although I was looking at the control when I said that I did know.
13. | Passed by somebody I didn't know.
14. | Pretty straight to the first aid, took the control that was headed for #19, and turned off at the bend. Pulled up short and slightly to the right, mistaking one small hill for another, and corrected without much time lost.
15. | +04:00 | Mistake. Brain must have been running out of steam at this point. Headed in the right direction, hit the small trail I believe, and then I just don't know what I was thinking, but I wound up going east on the trail 200 m N of the control. Recognized the huge reentrant north of me and turned right, but then misunderstood where I was and mucked around briefly about 150 m NE of the control before things clicked and I climbed the hill to where I belonged.
16. | |||||||
17. | |||||||
18. | A little wobbly at the end, brain getting fuzzy, and I was looking in places that were not actually interesting, while still generally moving in the right direction.
19. | Took an unnecessary little jog to the north on the first trail, but I found a new unmapped trail in there that was going my way.
20. | Right of the line, route executed perfectly. Ran past at least two other controls on my way.
