Race Evaluation

OCIN Flying Pig XXII: OCIN_Friday_Middle_Pyramid_Hill_Apr_2018_6 Red

Danny Riley

1. P D P R 3 I wanted to heed the advice of the Naesses and start slow and then build up speed. It was exceedingly slow but I had good control getting there except for a snafu when attacking a little too early.
2. P D P R 4 Well this was just stupid. I ran directly south and looked to move east when I hit the fence, screwed up because I thought I traveled too far east, doubted myself, and paid the price when I had to turn around again.
3. P D P R 3 This could've been a lot more difficult if I didn't hit the distinct clearing near the path east of the control, from there it was very easy and very obvious.
4. P D P R 2 The path was clear but my legs were tired! Only difficult part was finding the right place to clear the river because the banks were too steep and muddy to cross.
5. P D P R 3 A very good route for me. No drama here - well, a little, because I had to slow my pace dramatically from a little too much climbing.
6. P D P R 1 Very simple short leg. Had to stop to pick a burr off, hence the slightly extended time.
7. P D P R 3 This wasn't that hard of a control, but apparently some of the other guys made the same mistake I did here and went to the clearing northeast of it.
8. P D P R 4 If you didn't know where you were going here you were in trouble. Fortunately neither of those applied to me here. Whew!
9. P D P R 2 Not a hard leg with the exception of the exit direction from the control. I spent a little too much time fooling around in the forest than I needed to.
10. P D P R 2 Technically there was no challenge here. Physically...oh my! I will admit that I was beaten to a walk on the hill with the paved path.
11. P D P R 2 Very undramatic split. Walked my way out of 10 then picked up the pace to arrive at 11.
12. P D P R 3 Not particularly tough but I lost sight of where I was on the map, fortunately ran in the correct direction while rerouting and turned a mistake into a little one rather than blowing it up.
13. P D P R 2 If you paid attention to the sculptures this split was very simple. I was just tired at this point.
14. P D P R 1 No real orienteering skill here, just speed.
15. P D P R 0 Finish line was in sight the whole time.
F. P D P R 0 Finish!
