| 10. | Road to all the way NNE of bag and then fly down to it. Learned we (me and Mike P., the really fast ex-Stanford track star on my tail) were in 1st and 2nd. No idea how far behind Syd was. Vlad guessed 5 minutes route difference, I thought perhaps less, and Syd could make up the 5 minutes anyway... | ||||||
| 11. | Stayed high, got in some rocky ground N of bag then finally saw a gap to get down through. Rocky and bushy in places and couldn't shake Mike at all. | ||||||

| 18. | Last try to shake Mike. Stood at 17 for 10 seconds, memorized route, took off hard through moderate forest, cutting behind bushes and contours all the way to near the bag. Mike stayed fairly close and my calf cramped, so I gave up on totally losing him. | ||||||

| 24. | Stuck in bushes on stream, then took L-trail/road. Intentionally aimed L (not going straight to bag.) Then cut hard off earthbank to beat Mike to punch. | ||||||
