4. Right of pond, went high to avoid steep hillside.
5.
6. Went around left of green on trails. In the circle I was a little right of the control and above it. Lots of unmapped rock and cliffs confused me.
7.
8. Like Dean, I approached from the northwest and encountered a wide 1.2m cliff in the circle with no control. Visibility wasn't good, and it took a minute or two to find another cliff with the marker.
9.
10. Followed trails left of the line and attacked from the stone wall junction.

13. Went low near the marsh, finding some unmapped trails to follow. Along the way a pair of boys called and I stopped to show them where they were. Attacked successfully from large boulder near trail bend 130m SE of control.
14. Trails led me well to the right of the line, and then my strategy just depended too much on trails. The little attention I was giving to contours just could not save me. Going by trails was a failing strategy here because half of the trails on the ground were new and unmapped. Overshot and relocated from stone wall corner. Missed again and relocated at the knoll east of the control. Approaching the control, Dean was exiting the area, with a minute or so lead on me.
15. Dean was not in sight, and I was anxious to go fast and catch him, but very wary of potentially misleading trails. Hesitated 40m from the control due to the trail making an unexpected wiggle.
F. Caught sight of Dean as he reached the finish line.
