Race Evaluation

UNO Boulder Dash: Green M Day 2

coach

1. Nice idea to get people away
2. Running as fast as I could go in tough woods. Fapos caught me up and hit his red control.
3. Along west side of marsh, looking for hill top but didn't really see it, but was on the nose and headed south to trickle/wall area. E on wall to jct, S on compass and contour.
4. +00:40SE to wall jct. A bit confused by walls, but finally, noting compass, kept NS wall on my right, going uphill. Then SE across wall, then E to nose, spotted depression on it, then str. S. Pulled to bldr. NE before spotting the correct one.
5. SW through an area which I think would have been great for some controls, to trail, to big bend, S avcoiding stoney area, then shift W above re-entrant, verified bldr in it, then compass S.
6. Aiming off to to S, hit int. path, along it a bit N then in, spotted bldr just to N.
7. +00:30Route choice. Obvious out to road, but didn't like the look of all that green and if I hit the marsh.... Path route to E looked good so went that way, N of marsh across hill, str. E to avoid rocky ground. A bit of hesitation after trail crossed the wall, It didn't seem to be following the path shown on the map, more W then curve back E, then N.
8. +00:20Got fooled by "boulder" which turned out to be the cliff with the control.
9. +00:30S to wall jct, then carefully on compass. Went a bit too low and spotted it uphill.
10. Initially I was going to follow hills, but saw the ditch symbol on the map and went looking for that. Was quite obvious and I ran hard along it tot he marsh, W around it then cut back SE to re-entrant.
11. +06:00I saw 2 route choices. Compass NNW to the trail and go in from the corner, or ,straight north, into the theropes course area, then SW off the trail end. I chose the latter as I thought it would be a bit faster and never felt going off a trail corner was a solid attackpoint. I came out about 40 meters west of the trail end. Great! The control should be within sight! Saw nothing. Carefully lined up on th trail end and compassed off. Came to a shallow depression. Perfect! But no control. Glanced around, Going west was useless as no point there, south was nothing but the trail bend, went north. Got near stone wall end. Headed south along boundary markers, passed through same depression, nothing to do but go more south, and barely visible in a leafy area I spotted the control. Went back after finishing and verified it was in the re-entrant SSW off the little marsh. Moved streamer to correct depression. Hope it saved some one and results crew would uphold it.
12. Been this way before.
