QOC Patuxent: QOC Goat

1. P D P R 3 +03:00Road to trail, but missed the turnoff to cross the water. With all the vegetation and twists and turns in the path, lost touch with the map - and the lead crowd. Argh.
2. P D P R 2 Read the terrain effectively
3. P D P R 4 +02:30Wanted to take the trail around, cutting the corner would have been better (especially because I lost touch). Did an effective job relocating off control 125, but just didn't understand where I'd been for the previous 300m or what to look for.
4. P D P R 2 Finally quit staring at the trails and read contours instead, helped stop me from getting completely off bearing.
5. P D P R 2 easy trail run, read contours effectively at the end.
6. P D P R 3 +00:30Although this shows as one of my stronger legs, I ended up going right and coming out by the reentrant top...and then angling back through the woods over the hill to find the control. Probably ran decently fast because I was confident of where I was going.
7. P D P R 2 Trail, in from behind
8. P D P R 3 Almost straight at it
9. P D P R 3 +01:00Again, shows as reasonably quick...but I turned in one reentrant too early and made parallel errors all the way in to the control. Argh.
10. P D P R 3 Tired. Stopped to walk some, couldn't lost the guy behind me. Pretty much nailed the approach, though. White woods to trail by clearing, trail right 50m, cut through and look for reentrant.
11. P D P R 5 Straight at it. Got lucky. And only 5 seconds behind the fastest split, woo!
12. P D P R 3 +00:30Ran the low trail. The straight trail was probably a good deal faster.
13. P D P R 3 Good running and read terrain effectively
14. P D P R 3 +04:00Went left. Lost some time talking to Anna, some running well past the control on the trail and having to come back. I was planning my skip and missed the twists and turns of the trail...
15.
16. P D P R 5 I nailed this. Aimed off a bit left, and it worked - read the terrain details in and spiked it. Pretty proud of that.
17. P D P R 2 Trail run. Fastest split, probably because most people skipped here.
18. P D P R 2 Trail run. So tired. Walked some, but another fast split (because so few went to 18).
19. P D P R 2 Trail run again, end was navigating...counted one reentrant too soon, but found it ok.
20. P D P R 3 +00:30Didn't read the terrain quite right and ended up going over and then contouring the side to come back at it.
21. P D P R 4 Good understanding of the map, ran with confidence. Good split.
22. P D P R 5 +01:15Inverted the contours, lost touch, off bearing...lucky not to have messed this up much worse.
23. P D P R 1 Bashing through the green...
