CSU Pine Hill A-meet: Saturday Green X

jima

1. Determined to start fairly slowly and slow down as necessary with the heat. Inital thoughts when I turned the map over - 1) wow, there's a lot of green here, 2) a long and narrow map, 3) where the hell is #1? Counting trail junctions, moderate jog/walk up the hill, pegged it.
2. Drop down at an angle to the 2d trail. Trying to keep track of where I was along it. Up thorugh the thick green, dropping down byt he rock features on my left, follow along the base of the hill and right in.
3. Up the hill, slowly trying to absorb the detail, straight over 1 trail and hit it. Some luck involved...
4. dropped down the rocky reentrant, take the trail just right of the line and contour through the field, trying to look good for the audience. Through the parking area, take the trail where the road splits, Trail along the fence, soneone passes me, I get my feet wet, right on the trail and almost immediate left up into the woods. Some rock features, right of the marsh, past the rock blob and in. Guy who passed me must have done some floundering, as he got there just before me. Never saw the (better?) route around to the left along hte RR bed - would have avoided some of the up and down and a pretty good attack point.
5. Just right of the line to the trail junction (should have angled left to hit the trail faster), Went in from the bolder by the trail, end of marsh, over and in.
6. Stayed high to right of marsh, just left of rock face past trail, across the flat hill top, saw spur to right, pegged it.
7. Beelined and pegged it.
8. To trail on left, straight across, left, then right, seeing more trails then I expected. Overran to the main trail, saw the spur across to the left, with a rock face, but no control. Saw the marsh in front of me, but it didn't sink in. Stodd there looing stupid for a bit, figured it out, down the big trail, had to check out a rock feature that's under the circle, then in.
9. Left of the line a bit, across the trail, see the vague reentrant about to get nervous, turn left and it's there.
10. Right to the trail, down it, then cut across the 2 larger trails, up the hill, along the spur, drifted left and checked out some other rocks, overshooting. Ran into one of the trails, circled back and found it.
11. Beelined, at the control, came in from the north and exited south (reverse of what would have made sense).
12. Since I circled around to the S, kept on the circle and exited uphill. Saw to 2 route options, upper or lower trail, decided on the upper option. Past the first fork, then went in from the trail bend, thinking I had taken the lower trail option. There were some smaller rock features about where I was expecting them, but no control. Went into aimless wander mode, ultimately resulting in that "I have absolutely no idea where I am" feeling. Saw some trails, saw some rocks, wandered some more... Finally relocated by the trail junctions north of control 5. ran the trail along the fence, and approached as I did for 4.
13. Pissed, flustered, hot and tired. Dropped ENE to the trail / railroad bed and ran that (slowly) getting passed by Steve Olafsen looking disgustingly fresh and perky. Followed Steve off the main trail, picking my way through the trail maze. Steve headed off the wrong way, up to the right of the hill. Went straight in, punching just after Steve, who had circled around.
14. Dropped straight N, then followed Steve along the smaller windy trail. Popped up onto the main trail for a bit, then angled up the hill above the larger cliffs. Found it with little problem.
15. Dropped down into the reentrant, angled up right of the line, ont a trail behind a pretty large crowd. Saw the rock piles, contoured right into it.
16. Pretty much along the line. Following Steve O, and someone else.
17. Straightline and pegged it.
18. Dropped down to the trail, and planned on angling up in from the trail junction, but went in from the first rather than the secodn junction... Aould have been smarter to go up first and approach from above.
19. Not a lot left.
F. Even less left.
