Race Evaluation

QOC: Greenbelt: Blue

Nadim

1. Feeling better (but not 100%) so I decided to run Blue. I need the practice with the Navigator's Cup coming-up. Going to #1, I kept fairly straight. I checked-off the trail intersection and ditches along the way.
2. Down to the trail, the straight at it from the bend. I hit the ditch high but came down righ to it as some one else converged just ahead of me.
3. Underrated difficulty
Did not like map
+02:00
Up to the campground loop, then leaving it only vaguely knowing where I was. I went straight but was too high and had to wander back.
4. Underrated difficulty
Bad map reading
+02:15
Straight to the road then down the road a ways. I cut in ahead of the trail, went straight and hit the trail. Coming back, I looped counterclockwise but missed again and again hit the trail. Looping the same way, I came straight up the ridge to find that I was searching too low.
5. Down to the trail, over the bridge, the to it.
6. Bad distance judgement
Hesitated
+00:20
Straight along the right side of the creek. I was hesitant, not sure of my distance. I kept looking for the stream intersection but it was much further than I expected. I could see the control before I crossed just above the intersection.
7. Bad distance judgement
Hesitated

A little left of straight to avoid the green, I pulled-up short, looked around and could see it 70m ahead.
8. Angled straight toward the bridge over N.B. Still Creek, then through the green along the sewer line to the road. I went right/left following trails up until the bridge over the stream, then straight at it to spike it.
9. Back to the road the way I came, then followed the road to the Dogwood Trail. I followed the unmarked trail straight across the Dogwood loop, then down the gullies. I paused near the location only to take a few steps and see that the brush was hiding it right in front of me.
10. Straight across the ridge, then paused at the trail where Heidi Onkst was intently reading her map. I started to keep going straight, then took the trail around right to the bench, then right again down the unmarked trail. The control was much further from the trail than I thought but it was easily visible.
11. I didn't take an efficient route going down the hill. I got hung-up in the stickers before hitting the trail. Easy punch on this turning leg.
12. +00:30I went straight, fighting the brush to the lower Blueberry Trail, the turned left following it to the road. Left and right at the road to use the B campground loop. I cut in the brush, eventually hitting the Perimeter Trail and turning left to go to the road. It was fast down the hill. I cut left just past the trail intersection on the right. The map didn't show that the gully in the green went much further up the hill. I followed it thinking it was the gully the control was in but after going high enough, I looked around and saw it far to my right.
13. Straight at it, I crossed the multiple gullies on the high side rather than on the lower side past where they intersected.
14. Bad compass work
+01:00
Down along the gully, then vaguely straight. Visibility was not good. After going far enough to a clearing, I looked right again to see the control 70m over.
15. Straight over, an older guy got there just before me.
16. +02:30My plan was to climb to the Perimeter Trail, then use the road coming-in from the N. It was slow climbing throught green holly. Finally hitting the trail, I followed it along the ridge, cut through the B campground loop again, R/L to the main campground road, then cut-in left, just past the trail intersection on the left. I thought it would be simple to come down to where the streams intersect but I hit just a little left of the control in a flat area where it seemed intermittant streams were converging. Looping right first, but not big enough, I missed and decided to follow the first stream up to the left. I looped right again coming down the other stream, then went down to the gullies where the control was.
17. Francis was just arriving as I punched. Since there was not far to go, it was cold out and I wanted to leave ahead of him, I didn't drink. I contoured around the ridge, went upstream a little before crossing above the bridge on the trail. Going down, I went to the bridge to have a good attack point, then straight at it.
18. +02:30Sinewing my way around the green up the hill, I went straight into it after the saddle. I was on my knees for a little way. When I hit the stream, I wasn't sure how high I was. I crossed and went to a converging stream following it somewhat to the right. Doubting, I turned around to the left and did a clockwise loop. I saw Peggy approaching, then looked left and saw the control. I had a downhill aproach and got there just ahead.
19. +00:45Straight up and over, I drifted left while following an animal trail. Once again, I wasn't sure where I was after crossing the stream. I could not see the intersecting stream. I chose correctly and went right. I could see Peggy approaching so I felt better about the choice right away. I saw the control next behind a fallen log and went to it quietly while others were searching near also.
20. +00:10I knew that trying to come down through the green from the campground loop was hard because it was too thick. I made my route choice to go around to the left and contour my way there. I was a little low and almost stopped too soon.
21. Once again, I contoured my way around the green. It probably wasn't the fastest way. In doing so, I passed the pit. I hit the reentrant a bit low but in deciding to look higher, I saw the gullies above converge and then the control.
F. Just motoring in. I ran slower today than in the past but am pleased considering how sick I'd been.
