Blue Hills Traverse: Traverse

6. This one didn't work out so well. Took the right-hand trail up over the hill, but it was really thick getting through the stuff on top. Found an unmapped (but blazed) trail that got most of the way through, then got out to the trail. A bunch of people followed me, but those who didn't got there faster.
7. Trails to the left, cut some corners, came in from the bend east of the control.
8. Contoured around the hill to the right, could have better job, not sure if it was faster than the trails or not.

10. Contoured around the hill to the right, pretty sure this was a good move.
11. North to the road, straight from where the road passed by the pond. Caught up to Ben Parson around here, and we were together for most of the rest of the course.

13. Got somewhat high, looked down the hill for the wall, saw the control below and behind me.

15. Road around to the left.

17. Trail to where it crossed the swamp, straight from there. Finally warm enough to take off my gloves.
18. Trails on the left.
19. Planned a good route to #17, started off in that direction. Was a bit puzzled by the people like Phil coming toward me, apparently on an interesting approach to the control I had just left. Reconsidered my route, and decided that going to #19 would be a better plan. Apprached it at an angle that didn't provide a good attack point, and I must have missed it by just a whisker. Bounced off the trail behind and got it, but a big crowd caught up in the meantime.
20. Trail on the left, and thought I was attacking well, but I guess I was actually looking at some unmapped miscellaneous rock that I mistook for a stone wall, and left the trail way too soon. Found a nice patch of bare rock, but no control. Some of the crowd headed further along the hillside while I just flailed around the general vicinity for a couple of minutes before heading in the direction that they went.
21. Caught back up to Phil Bricker and Dave Yee, with Alex Jospe and Ben Parson right behind me.
22. Dave and Phil took the trail heading to the right, but I went straight down the hill, which was apparently faster than whatever they did. Took the big trail to about the 60% point, then veered right to cut the corner and headed up to the paved road. And my calves cramped. Ben went out ahead while I was reduced to walking. Pretty straight from there, but when I got close, I mistook what is mapped as a (dahed line) trail for a ski slope, and went too far right, to the top of the bunny lift. Alex caught up here, but she went above the cliff and I went below, which got me there a smidge faster.
